I'ma go to the Apple store at 6:00 to get Leopard 'cause they're gonna hand out free shirts 'n shit. This'll be my first Mac upgrade, is there going to be a line at launch? I'm wondering if I should get there early.

I got there a few minutes before the store opened and counted over 300 people in front. Only took about 20 minutes though, and a few hundred more people lined up after me. I expected a line but not that fucking long, especially in Oklahoma. I'll tell you how Leopard is tomorrow, if anybody cares.

Upgrading to Leopard was painless, I just put the CD in and double-clicked the installer icon. The rest took about 45 minutes. When it was done after Time Machine was backing up my hard drive and Spotlight was indexing so it was a little laggy for an hour or two. After that, everything seems even faster than Tiger. I have the Applications folder in my dock and it used to take a few seconds to load the list when I right-clicked it, but now it's always instant even with the eyecandy. As with most Apple products, everything looks better than in most screenshots. Spaces is fucking awesome, and it's implemented perfectly. It's been in Linux for awhile, but I could never use it because it's so horribly implemented. Apple it a great job on that. Overall everything kicks ass and installing was easier than expected. Leopard was well worth the price to me, and it of course blows Vista out of the water but Tiger already did that.

What exactly makes it "own?"
And why are you in this thread?

This is a leopard thread, I won't get into details on another operating system
And why are you in this thread?

Anybody who already has it want to send me a copy of their DVD? I ordered it through the 30 day upgrade thing but its not going to come for a week and I want it nowwwww :(
Will pay postage, like $10 for 2day shipping. Should fit in an envelope right?

Holy fuck, Apple sold 2 million copies of Leopard opening weekend. Tiger took six weeks to sell that many, and it was the most successful before Leopard. Crazy shit.

Nice! I can say I'm one of the many. I love this upgrade. Very slick, and aesthetically intense.

I re-arranged my desktop the other day. And I upgraded my entire system. I didn't need to reboot or use cds or anything, I just popped up a terminal and typed in emerge -uDn world.
The whole process took a couple hours, since everything was compiled from source, but now I have a sleek new desktop, with updated programs and I'm so happy with it.
I just wish I could have waited in a line of 400 people and spent a bunch of money too :(

Rage, you got to be careful about not developing one of those elitist Linux users attitude, it won't convince people to switch ;)

Interesting. I received my copy of Leopard the day it came out (I ordered it online, like close to 2 million others last weekend.) And it was completely installed in five minutes. I mean Everything.
I thank Apple for streamlining the Mac in every way.

My elitist side only comes out around other elitists. Or occasionally fanboys. Or when I'm drunk.
Mac has a lot of fanboys.
I actually have a fair amount of respect for OSX. They do well, but like Windows I just don't like the lack of native support for over-done customizations. Yea, Mac has the better interface than windows by default, and my Linux boxes often mimic the toolbar on the top/bottom and a launcher on the opposite edge, but I don't like having such limited options.
Beyond that, mac is stable, streamlined and has some power behind it. My only other beef is iTunes. Get a media player, not that piece of unextendable DRM'd shit. :)
Thank you that is all.

You see, this is what I don't understand... the 'need' to customise every little aspect of your system... Sure, OS X is not perfect - I'm beginning to think the whole win/linux/mac way of the 'desktop' isn't perhaps the best metaphor we have - but I do enough UI design that I shouldn't have to do any more on the actual UI of my OS.
Yeah, you could make a distro of your own, with your own UI - but what's the point if you're going to change it in a month?

Granted, that will run you $14,739
I just came. I love macs but I've only ever used Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP - no macs.
PS: I only have 1GB RAM, :(
I can't actually imagine why you're looking down here, but while you are...

Actually there's two quad-cores in the Mac Pro (octa-core), and you can have two 30" displays. Also, Apple pre-ordered most of Intel's new 3.2 Ghz quad processors, which are going to have a huge speed boost and use less power. so it's like fuck
