At 4/13/11 06:39 PM, letiger wrote: I have a question those. I've seen online about cases that cost $500+ dollars. How many cards are in those things?

You get 14 cards per booster (16 if you include the basic land and 'marketing card' or foil which is randomly a rules tip/foil/token)

You get 36 boosters per box, so each box gives you 540 cards and 36 basic lands.

Cases, if I'm correct, contain 6 booster boxes, giving you 3024 cards and 216 basic lands

Each booster (from Shards block onwards) contains 10 commons, 3 uncommons and 1 rare/mythic rare (not counting for foils) plus basic.

You should, therefore, get 216 rares, 648 uncommons and 2160 commons = 3024 cards.

This pretty much sums up how 'Spike' players see cards.

In EDH, there are many many broken cards and combos that aren't banned, but are none the less either powerfull, time consuming, or both.

One of the cards that represents both is Archmage Ascension which in an EDH deck can very, very, very easily get up to the 6 counters it needs. It doesn't even take that long if you build a deck around it.

Once the Ascension is 'online' you will find the pilot using every draw card effect as a tutor rather then a card draw. Being big decks, in EDH this can slow the game down as the blue mage constantly goes through their library to find 'answer' cards. This becomes more of a problem when there's multiple players. It also basically means that player will win if they built their deck correctly and has ways of dealing with everyone inevitably 'ganging up' on them.

Just be sensible about card selection. If you're playing to win, by all means play broken cards like Jace, The Mind Sculptor and Sensei's Divining Top. But if you're playing to have fun in a 6 player free for all, its best to leave time consuming and/or 'broken' cards at home otherwise you will find a target on your head, not only in-game but among your player community as well.

Is it broken if I can accumulate 9 mana within four turns in order to summon an Eldrazi? That happened this Monday.

Not really.

There's a deck called Eldrazi Green that is built to do exactly this, playing lots of ramp spells, primeval titan and the Eldrazi lands. It also runs summoning trap to 'cheat' them into play, but the deck mostly just wants to hardcast.

Needs more of the following:

Eldrazi Temple (run the full four of these)
Eye of Ugin (only run 2 of these)
More eldrazi guys (Ulamog + Kozilek)
Ezuri, Renegade Leader (Makes your elves hideouslly good attacks once you hit 5 mana. Also a good defensive card as you can 'pump' in respons to, say, pyroclasm. Regenerate is good VS lighting bolt and 'destroy' effects.)

Though I may disagree. Having three 21/21 is good along with 2 cards per artifact spell played and most of the cards in your now 20 card hand are 0 to 2 costing.

With this new set, I'm thinking of, for the first time, making a Blue/White deck. Leyline of Sanctity would have a good role, however one of the main things that catches my interest is using artifacts too add a bit more of a control element. A few reasons for this. The first is a card in the new set: 2 mana, tap a creature. If you have metalcraft, exile that creature. Works for me. Another card we'll be getting in New Phyrexia, which lets you untap your artifacts during your opponents untap steps as well as your own. Not only does that open up blockers, but untaps things like Tumble magnet to use again.
I've even thought of splashing black to add things like the new Surgical Extraction, Duress, and Sadistic Sacrament. If Everflowing Chalice were online, I might be able to even kick the latter.

An idea only just barely in it's infancy, but is it at all feasible?

Well, the club I play with is having a tournament tomorrow and I can't play, as I've got cricket commitments. The main thing being I'm glad I can't play, because I can't stand Scars of Mirrodin and Mirrodin Besieged.

Until we can cure infect abilities, it's a broken system.

Agree.

I don't play half as much as I used to, but some of the people I play with have the Mirrodin poison setup.

I've since recreated a land bouncer/destroyer/stealer.
boomerang, stone rain, wrecking ball, demolish, deny reality, conquer, dream leash, confiscate.

and a playset of pyroclasms just in case.

Just another arbitrary damage amount total.... that doesn't fluctuate.

Nothing to move/remove poison counters yet? Won't be long.

Or more platinum angels.

Well, either no-one's talking about who won the war, either because we're not bothered, or because we're trying to avoid the topic and the spoilers that comes with it. A new block out soon, then we can get on with our lives and proper Magic once more >:(

I used to play magic a while ago, I recently started back up, and I'm addicted. I bought a few deckbuilders kits and a crapload of boosters, if someone here could help me make a deck I would appreciate it.

Well I stumbled through my card collection and threw some stuff together, it is quite unrefined, however when I told my friend about it he said it had potential. I will post the deck listing as soon as I can, I'm dead tired.

Its a solid white deck

Well the good news is that Garfield (the original creator of magic and dude who worked on Ravnica) is working on Innistrad (the next block).

Also, we get to see jace 2.0, titans, squadron hawk (probably) and stoneforge mystic rotate out in october, which should help standard at least...

btw, splinter twin went up to $10 over the weekend. :(

I'm trying build an infect deck for standard. This is my first attempt, posted on the Wizards forum, but no help as of yet unfortunately. The idea is too use Green Sun's Zenith to get out cards like Putrefax and the new Phyrexian Swarmlord in order to get out creatures, supported by your standard ramp spells, mainly Explore. Black also makes an appearance in the form of creature removal to hit blockers and open things up, for proliferate, and to get rid of Melira, which is being increasingly main decked. Also Skittles and Hand of the Praetors.

So any thoughts/recommendations?
