Bates, just do the honorable thing and commit suicide so that the takeover can complete.

I guess the next best thing to look forward to would either be the easily predictable Super Cup this year, or the Football tournament at the Summer Olympics although I always find that to be rather boring.

In order to beat Spain, you must forget about sexy/attacking football. Use 5 or even 6 defenders and play long ball to the lone central forward who are physically strong can hold up 1 on 1 whenever you seize the ball.
After all, it worked for Chelsea against Barcelona.

So Aston Villa sealed a double move, with the signing of Ronald Vlaar, from Feyenoord for 7 million pounds. Vlaar signs on a 3 year deal

We also cashed in on Big Sam's war chest, by selling James Collins back to West Ham, for 2.5 mil. A net gain for us, with Vlaar effectively costing us 4.5 million to seriously upgrade the defence. No offence to Collins, but it's the right deal for the Villa, now.

If only we can get a creative midfielder now :)

I was very surprised that you guys did not go for Michu when he was still available. 15 goals in the Spanish top flight as an attacking midfielder for a poor Rayo Vallecano side last season, it was a STEAL for Swansea to land him for 2.5 million.

Ok, a bit last minute, but just to confirm, the NGFC Prediction League will be running again this year, and I'm happy to keep the scores. Here's hoping everyone finds their way back here in time to submit predictions.

If anyone wants to play that didn't play last year, all you need to do to participate is to post predictions for the upcoming week's Premier League matches in this thread (preferably no more than a few days before the start of the gameweek, just in case I miss them). You can also PM me your predictions if you want, and it's fine if you want to send a few week's worth if you're going away or something like that.

The points will work as last year, so 1 point for predicting the winner of the match correctly, and 2 points on top of that for getting the correct scoreline too. If there are any newcomers, the best piece of advice I can give is to copy Sentio and DannyIsOnFire's predictions, because they ran away with this last year :)

Good luck, and happy predicting!

Michu is the real deal --- 2.5 million is a steal. This guy is capable of scoring 15 goals and getting 15 assists. In other words, it would be wise to have him in your fantasy team because he is really really good.

The Return of the NGFC Prediction League - Week 1 Results (20/08/12)

Highest Score all time: 8 (HeartbreakHoldout)
Weekly average score: 5.14
Weekly average highest all time: 5.14 (Week 1)

Start as you mean to go on! With no perfect scores, but 8 correct results, I start the season in first place with 8. Like Fulham, I'm hoping that this will last the entire year. At the other end of the table, Sentio starts the season in very unfamiliar territory after scoring only 2. Everybody else scored in between mine and Sentio's scores!

This being the first week, there isn't too much to say. Things can change very quickly at this stage, and if anybody else wants to join in next week, you won't start with too much of a deficit.

Also, apparently Chelsea are playing Reading on Wednesday, if people want to predict the outcome of that...

Ha, great start! At least this week I will be starting with a level playing field and knowing for example that Van Persie is NOT going to be scoring for Arsenal... Still, not much changed for that sort of pathetic opening. I didn't see Swansea or Fulham being much good this season, and wasn't brave enough to give Everton the win despite thinking they will do well this year.

Also, apparently Chelsea are playing Reading on Wednesday, if people want to predict the outcome of that...

Chelsea 3-0 Reading

Should be a comfortable win.

Still can't work out why we're playing midweek, and also why we had to play Sunday with this game on Wednesday coming. Going to assume FA being as unfavourable to Chelsea as possible.

Chelsea 4 - 0 Reading

Must be to do with additional European commitments- European Super Cup/World Club Cup? I'd say it is good to get games out of the way early in the season to avoid fixture congestion later, especially if they fancy a run in the cups. Probably an advantage rather than a disadvantage!

Yeah my brother mentioned the Super Cup which I completely forgot about so my bad. I'll forgive the FA this time. At least its Reading I guess. I mean, no game is a certainty but better facing them first thing into the season then someone like City or Newcastle. If we win and go top it'll be a nice little mental positive I hope for the team.

I kinda imagined the really stressful football nights with Chelsea were over after Barca and Bayer. That was painful. Fun for a neutral I imagine, but christ my heart.

Also Hazard is looking awesome.

Could do with more peeps in the NGFC fantasy league if anyone's interested

Done, though it will be way down my footballing priorities so I can't promise much! As it is I am in two score prediction leagues (this one and talk sport with work colleagues, with a £50 stake on the latter!), and two fantasy leagues as well as this one (family and mates), so my time will have to be prioritised!

Top priority goes to the fantasy league with my mates, as I have won the last two years and have to retain my crown (though the same could be said for the score prediction league here!).

Anyone else joined more than they can keep up with?
