Red is lucky, that's why the new owners of Cardiff City want the Bluebirds to start singing a different tune. I know that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but I can't imagine the Villa playing in any other home strip than claret & blue.

Too much messing from foreign owners.

A flimsy pretext to talk about the Villa, but we've now installed Paul Lambert, a Scotsman that we actually wanted, for a change. Let's see how he gets on, hopefully we'll be telling the blues "Get it upye!" by the end of the year. Oh wait, they're still in the Championship.

I wouldn't support them anymore. Dead serious, if only people knew that mass boycotting would work instantly we wouldn't have to put up owners shit. 6 games of empty stadiums and they would shit themselves and give into practically all the supporters wishes.

Fucking foreign owners, they have no respect for the history and traditions of our clubs, as much as I loathe them sheep shagging cunts thats over 100 years of history being shat on. If Charlton ever play in any colour other than red, that's it i'm done. it's not the same club anymore.

I really would like to laugh my ass off about Holland right now. But I think Germany will lose as well, so I have nothing to laugh about. :/

Strange when here we are raving about the German side and many think they are favourites to win the tournament!

A couple of things...

What does the referee stood by the goal actually do? I've never seen them so much as move, despite crucial decisions being mere metres away from them, and now even a goaline decision can't get the assistant to move...

And why are the German fans throwing things at the Portuguese players? While I highly doubt that UEFA will actually abandon the game, it seems idiotic that the fans are carrying on regardless. It would certainly send a message to other fans to abandon and award the win to Portugal...

Saying that the Russian fans were apparently assaulting two stewards in the stands last night, and I've not heard anything done about that, so it would be a little over the top for throwing a few paper cups.

I just have a bad feeling, that's all.

This is one of the big unsolved mysteries of modern ages. Nobody seems to know what those guys are doing. I guess they don't even know themselves.

And why are the German fans throwing things at the Portuguese players?

I really don't know and I think it's really a disgrace. They where asked THRICE to stop throwing things. And when they stopped, they started burning fireworks...

Anyway, the match was one of those games... first half was really poor. Only one good pass to Gomez (2nd minute), not much goal threats there. With Pepe's shot, Germany was lucky the ball wasn't in the goal (and this time it clearly wasn't behind the line, unlike against England in WC 2010).

The goal more or less came out of the blue. The pass even was deflected, Gomez hit the ball really well and it went inside. Really a "lucky punch".

Next up is the match against Holland. Holland HAS to win if they want to pass the group stage. And against Germany, Holland's players don't need any extra motivation. So it's going to be a very close game.
Portugal vs Denmark, I would like to see Denmark winning this one.

Most interesting match today sure is France vs England. If it was possible, I would like both teams to lose, haha. But since only one team can lose, I hope it is England. Sorry all England fans, but I just can't bring myself to like your national team. ;)

Ukraine vs Sweden: Doesn't sound too interesting, but that's the same I thought about Croatia vs Ireland as well. :)

Possibly you can't sub midway through a set of fixtures (thus preventing you subbing mid round and getting twice as many players playing), so they probably haven't shown up yet (until after tonights match in fact).

Not confident at all about England's chances in this game, though I am DELIGHTED that Downing has been dropped.

I wish that UEFA would consider dropping the referee for the rest of the tournament. All I'm asking for is a consistent, even handed referee. Obviously Franck Ribery gets some sort of special treatment. I'll expect the same, as I was born on the same date as he.

Frustrating, that we could not get the win, frustrating that we tried to defend a one goal lead, failed in that after 10 minutes and then didn't really try to get another goal. Still, we're unbeaten to start the tournament, so now to hope for a draw between Sweden and Ukraine, to really keep this group tight!

I was more thinking about Germany losing. Holland played well up until the penalty area. But then the german defence was too strong. At around the 50 minute mark, Holland was better than Germany, but luckily, they only managed to get one goal in.

So ends our trip through Euro 2012. We just aren't good enough. I think that we should have put the Italians under more pressure and substituted Ashley Young... possibly Wayne Rooney as well, he didn't have a good game at all.

You know that England won't win any major tournament until all the deadwoods retire from international duty, don't you? I mean, they've got Terry, Gerrad, Ashley Cole, Rooney and (the injured) Lampard who are used to failures and underperformances. By the way, when was the last time that England won a penalty shootout in a major tournament? Must be a long time ago...

You realise that every last one of those players who are 'used to failure' have won the Champions League, right? Though I agree that it is time for some fresh blood (and it was a while ago).

And we have only ever won one penalty shootout- quarter finals of Euro 96 against Spain.

But all in all a dismal display last night, but I disagree that we were out of our depth. One simple tactical change would have been enough- put the opposition under pressure rather than watching them pass the ball around. I posted the following on the BBC website earlier...

'Everyone bangs on about how we can't pass or keep possession, but there was a more fundamental reason why we lost last night.

The Italian's put pressure on us as soon as we had the ball, hence us finding it hard to keep it, while we let them pass at will. Pause the game at any point in the second half/extra time with Italy in possession and look for how many Italians are marked (i.e. have an England player within touching distance). I did this last night on my sky box, and after a dozen attempts couldn't find a single case of us being tight on a player (any player!). Not one. We stood off at least a couple of metres and let them pick a pass over and over again. We didn't attempt to be physical. We didn't get in their faces. We didn't even make a tackle!

We let them dominate possession, and the only way we won it back was once they had missed or had a shot blocked. Only Parker showed any intent in winning the ball back, and virtually all our good play and chances stemmed from us actually winning the ball and launching a counter. Sadly all too rarely.

Had we been physical we would have won. We would have created more and disrupted Italy more, and Pirlo would have been less of a factor if someone... ANYONE had closed him down during the match. I was almost hoarse screaming at the TV for someone to get close to him and stop him pinging balls over our backline.

And this isn't a problem of skill from our players. Anyone can close a player down and be physical with the opposition. If they are too fast or skillful then fair enough, but Italy are neither and were treated with far too much respect. It was either poor, bordering on idiotic tactics, or a lack of energy and willingness from our players to work for the team. I fear the latter- Croatia certainly made it look easy to disrupt Italy in the second half of their game.'

I don't think Rooney or even Ashley Cole should be lumped into that. For one, Rooney isn't aging whatsoever and the reason he has so little success with England is because they don't play in a way that suites his style of play. Cole is no doubt a great left back and deserves credit.

Gerrard, Terry and Lampard though, I agree.

Are you kidding? Gerrard has got some major skill and like Rooney he needs to play the kind of unique style the rest of England plays, he's one of the roots of there oh mighty defence.

If we're going by this tournament, then I think Gerrard was one of our better players, and it was our younger players (Young, Milner) who let the side down. In terms of the next world cup, though, I think the injuries will probably have taken their toll on Gerrard and he won't be good enough, and we'll be left very much in the hands of Rooney, who never plays to his potential for England, and the likes of Ashley Young and his sort, so I hope they can come good...
