Get 'em Chelsea!
Well they have been shit, but somehow they are still in it, and in fact with Muller off you could argue they are actually in the box seat all of a sudden. I'm surprised how negative they have been, but clearly they are riding their luck and as Gary Neville keeps saying, it might be written in the stars...
Flashbacks to barcelona 99 for a moment there?
Spoke too soon... penalty
Chelsea are gonna win these penalties, they have luck on their side

FUCKING HELL, London finally got a CL.

THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!! So proud of Ashley Cole!! At first I was disappointed in Chelsea's goalkeeping but Ashley Cole just proved to unpredictable for Neuer. For me this really makes up for Man City winning a Premier League title, can't wait to see Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup, just such an incredible match!!
Congratulations to Chelsea for finally conquering their first CL. Drogba saved Chelsea with that header, but overall, the game was pretty dissapointing.
shit's amazing
Can I say "Undeserved"? Thank you.
Also: Since when do the english win a penalty shootout? Now I really do believe in 21/12/2012.

I cannot put into words how I feel at this moment in time.
Written off all season, the champions league especially when we were 3-1 down in the first leg to Napoli. Underdogs from then on against Benfica, then Barca and tonight against Bayern. I don't care if we rode our luck, if it was 'undeserved' You need luck to win big and fuck me that was just incredible. Plus an English side beat the Germans on penalties, in their own yard. Hope that gives England for the Euros a bit of a boost. But yeah qweotghjJISEHJIDUHTIU
Sorry to Spurs fans (would have preferred you got 3rd over Arsenal), but like a good loser Spurs fan I know said tonight "We've only got ourselves to blame. 12 points clear in 3rd, we and Harry blew it." Always next season.

Shit that - you weren't written off at the start of the season, you were written off when it became apparent it would be a herculean task to better 6th place.
Most of the season*
Then. Which is true the moment City and United dominated the top. But who cares right now? Champions of Europe.

Yeah I don't agree with the whole 'negative tactics' stuff, I think that on the pitch Chelsea don't have the same quality as Barca and perhaps Bayern, but in regards to tactics they did what they had to do. Paid off in the end really, and I don't even think it was down to luck... you can only ride that for so long. Defended excellently throughout. ALSO if you don't give Drogba his two year contract then Roman deserves a slap.

Now to see who faces Chelsea in the world club cup. My guess is Santos or Boca Juniors. Corinthians, Vasco and Fluminense also have a good chance. Unfortunately I don't think Corinthians has the quality to win the Libertadores, but who knows, Chelsea won their first CL, maybe it's our turn to win our first continental cup as well.

But I do it anyway. It WAS undeserved. And dear mother of god, why on earth was it Drogba to take the last penalty? That bloody bastard. I can't put into words how much I despise the way he acts on the pitch.
Anyway, my predictions for the EC? Germany fails to pass the group phase.

I have to agree that Chelsea were incredibly lucky, but in the end they deserved that luck for a brilliant defensive display (Bayern had remarkably few clear cut chances, especially after the first half). My support was teetering backwards and forwards last night as I would have liked Spurs to be in the Champions League, but it was hard not to get swept up in the Chelsea miracle. Plus RDM is incredibly likeable, even as a Chelsea player/manager.
And while I can't stand Drogba either, I equally loathe Robben for exactly the same reasons, so it balances out in my eyes.

I think they will make the semi finals minimum, despite being in the group of death. Germany always does well in the major championships, even when they had a poor side in the last 10 years, though I can't see past Spain winning the trophy.
England to scrape through the group and then go out in the quarters.

I really would like to disagree here. But truth is, I can't. Only difference between Robben and Drogba? Robben plays for Bayern and I cannot loathe anyone playing for Bayern. ^^

I really hope you are right. But there are so many national players in the Bayern squad, and they all lost yesterday. Especially Schweinsteiger - who always played an important role in the national team - needs more time to get back on track. Not only was he injured twice this season, he also missed a very important penalty.

My brothers - with the scarf in the middle and the on the right side side of the cup.
Not the real cup of course, but still dead jealous I'm not up London with them today. And stuck working instead.

Not as long as our one.

And I wonder how much more money Abramovich will spent on this club. Last numbers I heard was One. Fucking. Billion. Euros.
Okay, he reached his primary goal now (after eight years and spending only ONE FUCKING BILLION EUROS), but what's next? Spent another billion to win the next CL title?

Because only two Englishmen took penalties. Had they been wearing white, they would have been screwed.
Schweinsteiger's miss was poor, considering his pedigree. Ashley Cole in an England shirt would have pulled his penalty the other side of the post, Lampard would have hit his higher, so the keeper could have palmed it onto the bar. For club, they are able, for country, it never seems to work...
Anyone got any feelings about Solskjaer becoming the new Villa boss? Rather him than McLeish, at least he's done something as a manager, as opposed to getting the shit half of Birmingham relegated. That's like winning the league title on any football game with the difficulty set to easy.

You can say that again. It was the worst penalty I've seen in quite some time. The worst stilling being one of the missed penalties in the WC2010 match between Uruguay and Ghana (that ghanaian guy only took NO run-up at all!).

But Cech did tip it onto the post you know. Instead of blaming Bayerns poor penalty taking, perhaps praise Cechs brilliant penalty saving. He did his homework for the final and while he didn't save every penalty (3 out of 6 aren't bad), he knew where each of them were going 3:

I meant that the quality of the shot was poor. Lacked Schweinsteiger's usual oompf. Had he got his weight behind it, we may not have seen Chelsea lifting the trophy after all...

Every penalty (except for Neuer's) was shot in the lower right corner. That's bad penalty taking in my book. And I never praise a goalie in a penalty shootout, because he has the easiest job of all players on the pitch. I also didn't praise Neuer when he saved two against Real.
I also don't get why Robben took the penalty in the extra time. He missed a penalty against Dortmund in the league, he was lucky the ball went in against Real, he didn't even wanted to take part in the penalty shootout in the semi final... so why on earth was he still the #1 penalty taker, when his confidence is so low already?

Bayern was lacking nearly everything in this game. Okay, they dominated huge parts of the match. But seriously, 20 corner kicks and not ONE(!) shot towards the goal as a result? You may think that they try a few variations after the first few corner kicks, but no... "oh hey, 15 corner kicks already and no threat. Maybe this is THE ONE?" *kicks ball in* "Oh, it was cleared by Chelsea again...". With a little variation here and there, maybe the extra time + penalty shootout wouldn't have been necessary afer all.

A very impressive Euro 2012 roster I really see some real potential in these guys. Steven Gerrard is an excellent choice as captain now if only Michael Owen weren't off on injuries he would be a great addition.
Ridiculous, we even cannot afford 400k for Joel Ward. Bates out!
So I've been away all weekend in Brighton (stag!), and missed the England game. What reports I have read have ranged from it being an impressive performance from a second strong side, to an inept display where we couldn't string 5 passes together. Anyone care to enlighten me, as on paper that looks like a decent result against a side that haven't lost at home for 2 years.
Also delighted that Crewe beat Cheltenham, as that is another nice local away game for next season.
Just sell up and go back your cave in Monaco, Bates.
