Glad to see we landed a relatively easy group. I would have been worried about Valencia last year but they're a crumbling side thanks to moneymoneymoney. Like Gagsy said it'll be nice to see Ballack again too.

I can't see City doing very well, good players or not over the past few seasons they've proved almost nothing of it.

Utd will be through with a skip and a jump.

Arsenal will be like Valencia come the first game wolmaoroflhahawee

I also find it interesting how all four of the English sides in Europa made it through last night, compared to the four Scottish sides who went out. I think the divide in both leagues here is quite a larger amount than any Celtic or Rangers fan is willing to admit to themselves.

Well happy for the likes of Stoke, Birmingham and Fulham. Nothing against Spurs, I hope they do well too, just nice to see some of the smaller sides making it through to the group stages.

They won more trophies than Chelsea or Arsenal last season, came a very respectable third in the league, and have beaten most of the top sides at some point in the last couple of years. I think they are looking good for second in the league this year, and will go far in the Champions League, tough group or not. After all Spurs did well last year with a weaker team/squad than City, and City can essentially play a different side in the league to the Champions League, which will help them to stay fresh in all competitions.

Utd will be through with a skip and a jump.

Quite, easy group once again.

Chelsea to top their group despite some tough away matches- I think they will be too consistent over the 6 games to let one of the others past, though it will be a tight group between the top 3.

Arsenal to scrape through in second in their group... If they sign someone/anyone in the next few days!

I've tried to defend the Scottish league, but last night was indefensible. Celtic and Rangers have fallen back rapidly in the last couple of years, from being a constant presence in the Champions League (and usually threatening a last 16 spot) to not being able to compete in the Europa League... even Shamrock Rovers have made it into the group stages! There is no money in the Scottish league, and players don't want to play there if they can come South instead. While I still feel that Celtic or Rangers would be a threat in the Prem should they ever move, thanks to the dramatic increase in money that they would receive, they are a long long way from that at the moment.

Saying that Celtic aren't out of Europe necessarily, FC Scion are likely to be thrown out and Celtic reinstated. So they can go through the humiliation of losing to another side we've never heard of next round!

Sorry haven't posted much recently, I've just moved to Prague and been getting settled and stuff (and paying cringeworthy amounts for Internet).

Anyway, good result for us at the weekend (Welbeck is looking good...) and decent draw for us in the CL. Can't wait to see City's group though, hopefully can give them a challenge. And if Arsenal don't up their game on Sunday, I think we'll get a win.

I just don't see them beating the top euro sides. It's taken 3 years to show the money has actually made an impact after piles of wasted money and talent (Craig Bellamy, Steven Ireland, Shay Given). If the squad can prove it's possible to gel as a side strong enough to conquer the likes of Barca after such a short time I can see them in the semis.

There was plenty of great players behind them in the Europa league too, the only difference now is a few new shirts on the pitch.

I don't see them beating Barce either; lets face it, nobody in Europe has a chance against them at the moment! But I think City are good enough to beat Munich/Inter/Milan/Porto etc, and that would be enough to reach the semis.

For me Barce, Real Madrid and United are set apart from the rest as the top sides in Europe at the moment, with the other teams squabbling for that last semi final place. City may well turn out to be the next best side- it will be tight between them and the sides mentioned above, plus Chelsea.

It is time for Sentio to accept defeat and finally admit that the SPL is rubbish.
I think that my Whites have a really good chance of winning the SPL if we are allowed to play there.

Agreed, though could be a reverse of that.

Group B: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor
Inter Milan first, Lille second.

Moscow second for me, just because they are a nightmare to travel to.

Group C: MANCHESTER UNITED, Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati
Man U first, Benfica second

Agreed

Group D: Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb
Real Madrid first, Lyon second.

Agreed

Group E: CHELSEA, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Genk
Chelsea first, Leverkusen second.

Valencia second, Leverkusen narrowly third.

Group F: ARSENAL, Marseille, Olympiakos, Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund first, Marseille second.

Arsenal second, just, with Dortmund first.

Group G: FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St Petersburg, APOEL Nicosia
Zenit first, Porto second.

Shakhtar first, again because they are so hard to travel to, with Porto second.

Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen
Barca first, AC Milan second.

If anything other than that happens I'll be amazed.

I already did, about 5 posts up from here... and Leeds would perhaps win for a season and then fall away rapidly as they are forced to sell their entire squad to fit the wage bill in Scotland. Rangers and Celtic would still dominate due to their vast fan base (which is much bigger than Leeds), and on a level playing field in terms of money Leeds would stand no chance.

Predictions for the weekend:

Aston Villa 1 v 1 Wolverhampton
Wigan 0 v 1 QPR
Blackburn 0 v 1 Everton
Chelsea 2 v 0 Norwich
Swansea 2 v 1 Sunderland
Liverpool 3 v 1 Bolton
Newcastle 0 v 1 Fulham
Tottenham 1 v 2 Man City
West Brom 1 v 1 Stoke
Man Utd 2 v 0 Arsenal

Lol you lost Ipshit, apparently you should have been out of sight before the red card though, oh well. Chelsea only just scraped past Norwich and fucking Brighton have had an outstanding start and could well be prem come May. Oh and we won again, just sayin' so I'll be up the pub getting hammered later in celebration of our impending promotion.

Tut tut.

As of right now our respective teams are at exact opposite ends of the league spectrum. And judging by today's performances it is far more likely that we will stay in out position than Chelsea will in their's. Chelsea lucky today, Plymouth hopeless as usual. I should be grateful that we still exist, but the looming prospect of non-league football is too depressing for words.

Scrapped lol. How rude.

I'm so hoping that Brighton can make it to the Premiership. It would just be awesome. Probably out of all the South East teams they are the ones I support more and well it'd be great to see them with the big boys.

Plus yay for Juan scoring on his debut! I guess it was only a mata of time..

I'll stop now.

No no no. They piss me off. Living in Eastbourne for awhile now and all of a sudden Brighton "fans" have come out of nowhere there weren't a single one to be found and now the whole town is covered with people in blue and white stripes. It's a pissy tesco carrier bag for a shirt that is, fucking glory hunting supporters this lot were all top 4 club supporters (I use that term very lightly) up until they got promoted and a new stadium. Raaawr the rant is over, Brighton need to draw Charlton in a cup competition we'll turn em over and ruin the mood.

I'm not sure how you can blame one of your lot getting himself sent off on Bates, which undoubtedly cost you the game. Terrible discipline record is costing you more than Bates at the moment.

I remember when one Bobby Zamora was the best player to play for Brighton for years- and now both him and his former team are flying high. Good to see, always had a soft spot for Brighton as a team not a million miles away from home.

Agreed, I used to hate watching Liverpool play- boring match after boring match (and no choice but to watch as my girlfriend supports them). Now I can't get enough- one of the best sides in the country to watch, and Suarez is one of the best players in the league currently. Starting to think third isn't out of the question for them, especially as Chelsea look very slow and fragile in defence.

Anyone still doubting City? Anyone?

This is not a team of individuals anymore. And the new attacking strategy is working wonders- they are tearing teams apart, and good teams at that. Dzeko is like a new player- eight in his last five games!!

I must say it is refreshing to see a new side challenging at the top, no matter how that has come about. It makes for a much more exciting season.
