Well I for one am a yid for the evening. Though I cannot see them beating United at Old Trafford it has to be said. A draw would be lovely Tottenham.

Sorry Gagsy but Chelsea aint got shit on United, played fucking brilliant, very impressed with em. Fair play to the spurs fans that turned up non stop singing all game. Plus chanting "You're just a shit Micheal Jackson" to Nani was class.

You make it sound like I'm under some illusion. Trust me, I'm well aware. Got to have faith in your team though right?

I keep looking at that United lineup and thinking its not good enough, and then they keep going any playing like that (I call it Hansen syndrome)! When did Welbeck and Cleverley get so good? It seems to have happened almost overnight! It seems they are doing what Arsenal have been trying to for years- developing a young team with masses of potential, but with Ferguson at the helm you suspect that this team will be winning most things over the next few years rather than losing.

Stark contrast to an ageing Chelsea side (how slow did Alex and Terry look against West Brom!), a very thin Arsenal squad, and the bunch of mercenaries at City and Spurs.

Sarcastic as that may be people could easily make an argument that finances are the most important thing. What good are trophies when you're club is facing administration or even extinction, Arsenal are one of the only clubs that are actually making a profit, which when you think about it is scary. They still have to pay for that stadium (which is fucking incredible by the way kicks the shit outta old trafford) and because of their policy about wages and transfer fees it's pretty much guaranteed Arsenal's survival as a club. What are Man City or even Chelsea gonna do when their owners have had enough of their toys and throw em away.

Since when was clubs ceasing to exist part of the game? Why should institutions that have been around 125+ years suddenly be destroyed because of the greed of a few? And it is all well and good for someone who supports one of the three sides that actually win anything to say take the lows with the highs, but what about the vast majority of clubs that have absolutely no prospect of winning anything, and simply continuing to exist is all they are aiming for?

I would love a big team to collapse in the way that most of the teams in the lower leagues are (Everton seem a good bet at the moment, but it could easily be Chelsea if Abramovic gets bored/arrested), because then the FA might actually get off their backsides and try and save the game from destroying itself.

I didn't mean it like that, I was thinking more of being a shitty team then not being a team at all. Like Chelsea used to be, I still remember that. THAT is all part of the game.

Fair enough, though I worry that should any rich owner back out of a club that they have bankrolled for a considerable period that it will be ceasing to exist that will be the concern, not returning to mediocrity...

Question for all of you, especially those who support 'big' teams. Are you even aware that one league and four non-league clubs ceased to exist in the last month or so? I'm curious just how good a job national media are at covering the small teams rather than the latest crisis at Arsenal.

Anyone realise that Rushden and Diamonds (who were league 1) no longer exist? Dawlish Town, Andover (just down the road from me, so got some coverage here at least), Bicester Town and Windsor and Eton? All real clubs with real fans that are now gone.

I confess I haven't really heard of some of them, but it won't be long before teams we have all heard of follow them.

Lol Arsenal are wank, on an unrelated topic to that ,these were posted not too long ago showing cheapest and most expensive season ticket prices. More reason to hate Ken Bates Leeds you're top of the championship and QPR, what a bunch of fucking piss takers. More expensive then Man United and Man City!? Loftus Road is a 13,000 capacity shit hole, Charlton's ground is twice the size for fucks sake. Oh yeah and Arsenal with the way you're playing you can fuck right off.

Well Arsenal have snuck in (and played a lot better than they did against Liverpool), and we now know the 32 sides that will be in the draw. And a scan through the pots makes for some interesting (and worrying if you support one of the big boys) reading.

Pot 1: Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Porto, Internazionale

Pot 2: AC Milan, Olympique Lyonnais, Shakhtar Donetsk, Valencia, Benfica, Villareal, CSKA Moscow, Olympique Marseille

Pot 3: Zenit St. Petersburg, Ajax, Bayer Leverkusen, Olympiakos, Manchester City, Lille, Basel, BATE Borisov

Pot 4: Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Dinamo Zagreb, APOEL, Trabzonspor, Genk, Viktoria Plzen, Otelul Galati

Firstly, what on Earth are Dortmund and Napoli doing in pot 4 with the minnows? And there are some big teams in pot three as well... Anyone fancy predicting who they might get? Or have a shot at the ultimate group of death?

I'd quite like to see a group with Dortmund, Man City, AC Milan and Barcelona/Real Madrid- now that would be entertaining!

I know they work this pot thing on times in the Champions League or how far the team gets each year but I still find it somewhat rude on Man City who did get directly in and get put in Pot 3, and Aresenal who had to qualify - which they did still get their pot 1 draw. Maybe I'm just too anti about it.

Fancy elaborating on who you actually think will be in that group, or any reason at all why that group will be the group of death?

Worst and best groups for the English contingent?

United, Arsenal, Chelsea best possible:

Marseille or Lyon, BATE or Basel, Galati (who I have never heard of...) or Plezen

Worst possible group:
AC Milan, Lille, Dortmund
or
Valencia/Benfica, Leverkusen, Napoli

Man CIty best group:

Porto or Inter, Marseille, Galati or Plezen

Man City worst group:

Barcelona, AC Milan, Dortmund (group B apparently...)

And the draw is:

Group A: Bayern Munich, Villarreal, MANCHESTER CITY, Napoli (ouch!)

Group B: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor

Group C: MANCHESTER UNITED, Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati

Group D: Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb

Group E: CHELSEA, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Genk

Group F: ARSENAL, Marseille, Olympiakos, Borussia Dortmund

Group G: FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St Petersburg, APOEL Nicosia

Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen

Thoughts?

A twitter feed: "As clockwork, United get a nice draw."

Well, I must be honest, when I saw AC Milan go into Group H with Barcelona, I was convinced that Man City would be joining them. Forgot about the 'red' and 'blue' business due to tv. I think it mainly effects us in the UK what with four of our teams involved. So a little disappointed there. Though they do have not an easy group at all.

Could be better for us too, and the way we've been lately, the group will be no picnic for us. Be great though to see Ballack back at the bridge with Leverkusen. We do love him here.

I can't see though at the end of us, Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal not making it through. Even if Arsenal have been all over the place lately. Man City is a bit more of an unsure thing, just because this is their first time and the group isn't EASY. But then they all aren't right?

Feel sorry for BATE Borisov and Viktoria Plzen.

Who would they lose to?
Valencia lost their best players/aren't in the top 2 in Spain therefore are crap
BL couldn't even win the German League
Genk...

Glad to see we landed a relatively easy group. I would have been worried about Valencia last year but they're a crumbling side thanks to moneymoneymoney. Like Gagsy said it'll be nice to see Ballack again too.

I can't see City doing very well, good players or not over the past few seasons they've proved almost nothing of it.

Utd will be through with a skip and a jump.

Arsenal will be like Valencia come the first game wolmaoroflhahawee

I also find it interesting how all four of the English sides in Europa made it through last night, compared to the four Scottish sides who went out. I think the divide in both leagues here is quite a larger amount than any Celtic or Rangers fan is willing to admit to themselves.

Well happy for the likes of Stoke, Birmingham and Fulham. Nothing against Spurs, I hope they do well too, just nice to see some of the smaller sides making it through to the group stages.
