Actually, Rugrats was more an adult show than a "children's show." It centered around adult references/wit/humor. The stupid, barely-sentient little kids could sit and watch and just think it's a bunch of babies playing around, but it was not written for those little doofuses at all. I remember being turned off by the very premise when I was 6-8 ("a show about babies? This has to be boring and juvenile"). Nope. When I was 9, going on 10, I tuned in and was absolutely hooked. Even though I was too young to fully understand many of the references, I always sensed and understood that the writing was aimed more at both adults and older kids who had picked up on many aspects of adult wit, and I think I was one such kid who was starting to acquire that knowledge.

I'm referring to the pre-1998 Rugrats, of course. The 1998 and beyond ones were awful. There isn't a word strong enough to describe how bad it was at that point. Those episodes really WERE written for little pre-sentient children, and it was so bad it killed brain cells. Choose Sesame Street instead, if you're looking to entertain that age group.

But being on NIckelodeon doesn't mean anything. Ren and Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life were on Nickelodeon. Those were not even remotely kids shows. The main difference between those, and Rugrats and Doug, is the latter two were very careful whenever they added in something raunchy, to the point where almost nobody realized it was in there, and their adult wit was seen as harmless, therefore they were considered "kid safe," and without the controversy, weren't given the "this really isn't a kids show" credit.

You're acting like you never saw this as a kid and were just recently forced to watch every episode against your will until you hated it. That's my only reasoning for such passionate hate. Maybe it was at gunpoint with your family's life at stake.

you made a great analysis of the show but you failed to tell me why the show sucks. I grew up watching it and I like it.

They're fucking kids, of course they get into trouble,get scared,be wierd.and annoying, but that doesn't mean the characters suck.

I never liked it.

I agree I loved this show as a kid but now looking back at it ITS FUCKING ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly I think most people like this show for Nostalgia value and Angelica being a brat is painfully bad like it's not even funny she gives me such an unpleasant feeling inside

I loved this show quite dearly in the 90's and early 2000's but now I find that the show kinda irks me.

Still, there were a lot of perfect moments that came from the series, like Stu making chocolate pudding at 4am.

But yeah, Rugrats was a great show, OP's just trolling or some shit, according to him the only way to rectify the show is to make it actually about infants who sit in a pen and do nothing all day and have toddlers act like normal toddlers. As opposed to using their incredible imaginations to transform boring and ordinary events into fantastical adventures such as the show was and what I enjoyed watching, when I was young.
