I've been there. Not by that actual building, but on the Coronado peninsula. Of course, if I did see the building, I wouldn't have known.

The only way people know about it is because of Google Earth. Then, since people are idiots and complain, the Navy is going to spend $600,000 to change the building... It's pretty fucking dumb.

Yay, Obama won. Let's thank his supporters:

-Black Panthers for their intimidation of voters.

Wouldn't that be a form of Amendment #1? Aren't we aloud to express ourselves just not in a way that can endanger others? If so the navy doesn't have to do shit if they care what people thought or such but apparantly it shouldn't matter otherwise its pretty pointless for someone to point out a random irrelevant object that looks like a Nazi symbol.

Waste of money.
The building doesn't look like a Nazi symbol; it looks like a sun symbol which was adopted by the Nazi's. A symbol is not evil!

I just saw an advert on TV for Nescafé. It had a cross-word in it and that cross word contained the same symbol in it. That was a lucky coincidence. Anyway, should that advert be removed from the television on the basis that it contained an assortment of objects that, to the trained eye, formed a symbol which was used by the Nazi's?
Of course it shouldn't!

By changing the shape of those buildings, what are they really changing? Do the people who work there suddenly become good people? Do the people of the community suddenly have a massive weight lfted off of their shoulders?
Nothing happens! So why waste that money? Hopefully more people will complain about the waste of money than did about the shape of the building.

True

But like a few other guys said, it's a waste of money to succumb to political correctness and alter it.

they should alter the building by adding a giant painting of a one finger salute on the middle building. that way, when people view it so they can be outraged by it, they will have a REAL reason to bitch.

and yeah, the south park episode for this is gonna be awesome. Perhaps cartman will somehow take over the building and use it to try and launch a campaign to destroy the jews... again.

Political Correctness. Ugh.

Most people today don't realize that the swastika is actually an ancient symbol used by various cultures. It was used by such cultures like the Hindus, Buddhists, and Jainists from hundreds to thousands of years and it meant various things like being a symbol for the sun, love, mercy, strength and many other positive traits. It was a positive sign until the Nazi party used it as a symbol for their political party and committed so many horrible things in such a short period of time that it ruined the name of the swastika and made it the most controversial symbol in human history. Nowadays, the first thing people think when they see the swastika is the Nazi party with such evil people as Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Josef Mengele and several others. It's just amazing that the meaning of an ancient symbol of so much ancient history to modern people can be completely changed in so few years.

As for changing the building, it was probably a small set of buildings that had additions over the years to make a probably unintentional building formation of the swastika. I think it would be such a waste of money to redesign a building all because of the simple human nature to be offended by such simple and minor things. People need to be educated to stop taking offence to things that have more than one meaning.

people are fucking morons.just because the building accidentally turned out in a swastika shape(which nobody would have even noticed if google wasn't obsessed with helping people spy on each other by the way) people are now going to waste a fairly significant ammount of taxpayer money to "fix" a building that works just fine the way it is.

No but that symbol was hijacked by the nazis and now represents that evil in the eyes of the world. Whatever it may have represented in history, it not is irretrievably linked to the third riech. Look at it this way; its already had multiple uses, why not use it now. What would happen to a company that adopted the swastika as their logo?

yeah that's true.it's still a waste of money though because:
1.it's a coincidence
2.nobody would've noticed it if it weren't for fucking google
3.the building was built that way because it works best in that shape
4.it'll cost the government a lot of money, when they already need money quite a lot.

Yep, just because a few people can't get it through their heads that a building looks like a Nazi Symbol. Boo hoo, WWII is over, the swastika will always be known as a symbol for Nazis, but spending that much just to mask a building is taking it way over the top.

I was looking into this and I found out that the Anti-Defamation League forced pressured Nintendo into editing certain Pokémon cards because they showed a manji, which is the original reverse Swastika.

The Microsoft Windows logo versus the Swastika. Tough call, really. Heh, both of the symbols have come to represent an evil force in recent history.
