They usually just snap back in. If you fill the hole with epoxy, set the key back in, and let it harden, you can preserve the aesthetics of the keyboard.
One alternative can be done through software. A utility called "Remapkey" can change the meaning of each key. You can get it from Microsoft (of all places). It's in a set of other programs, though.
