Alright, this has probably been posted a zillion times... But here goes.
This would probably take a lot of server work and stuff that isn't worth it.. But...

What about separate levels for audio and flash?

I know everyone is complaining about how we dont get experience for voting on audio. What about getting experience in the audio portal for voting on audio... This would help with 0 bombers a little bit. Cause some random high level would have to vote tons to get experience... Though nevermind... That could make 0 bombers worse, although they would only be able to vote on 5 different songs a day... which would be quite useful.

This would either work out really well... or be absolutely awful....
If there were more 0 bombers than real voters, the real voters would run out of votes and 0's would still be going.

On the other hand... we could make music reviews give experience for the audio portal so that in order to be a high level you HAVE to be active in the audio portal.

please make it so the volume stays at the same level everytime the falsh loads, so i dont have to hurry to lower the volume before a huge blast, like on youtube

Thats something you can fix yourself. Just tweak down the 'Wave' volume in your volume control (double click the little icon next to your clock). There's no problem with the volume levels on the site in general, so if its too loud that tells me your volume's set too high in general.

Heck, wireless headphones. If the volume was too high a blast like that would cut my headphones out completely until I reset them.

its ironic, my media has replaygain so if i lower my volume to compensate for newgrounds my media player will be much lower, and replaygain is there so i dont have to change the volume

I was thinking about suggesting it, myself. I've received emails and PMs before from people asking where they can download my songs, and although it's obvious to NG regulars how to download, 'just visitors' and noobs don't really have a clue.

I have an idea : another function should be added in the "Audio Portal Options". I was thining of an option that would calculate the number of reviews we recieved. And another fonction less helpful but cool : An option that would update the name of our most reviewedsong. I made a related pic, I'm quite proud of it ; ). I hope you guys will like my suggestion.

How about a colour-code, icon, extra column, or something extra to indicate what genre each piece of music is in lists that contain multiple genres of music? When I look at the list of music and pick something, I tend to think to myself "please don't be techno please don't be techno please don't be ... bugger"

And possibly an individual front-page for each genre? IE selecting "Punk" in the browse genres menu would make the new-submissions list show the 30 newest punk submissions, the best-tracks ever list only show punk songs, the Best of the week showing only the best punk songs of the week, etc., with a separate button to view the list of songs like normal.

... and maybe a folk/folk-rock genre? <.<

it doesn't occur often enough to warrant the extra code, but... i think there needs to be a censorship/rating like in the FP (eg, suitable for all ages, 13+ etc) for the level of swearing etc used in a song. The only reason I bring this up is: the last heavy metal song I posted has some very explicit, violent lyrics and I'm a bit concerned that little kiddies will have nightmares. Seriously.

THIS bothers me more than the above issue. Sometimes I make an icon for a track, and once it's submitted I realize how ugly it is and how much I'd like to redo it/submit a new one.

Besides that, I think we should be able to edit our author's comments whenever we want; I have no problem with losing the ability to remove a track, to upload a different version, or to change its title after it's been used in a submission or hit 3k views. However, it bothers me that I cannot always edit my comments. BTW I believe icons should always be editable as well.

Also, and this is purely because some (wrong) guy brought it up in a debate with me: on the Submit page, where it says Loops you made from existing copyrighted songs are not your own original work., I think it should read Loops or songs you made from existing copyrighted songs are not your own original work.

Some guy who stole a song told me it was OK because it wasn't a loop -_-

I was doing an experiment where I would actually take a pic of a cd cover and shrink it down so that it fit the dimensions of the 46 by 46 icon. This way it perfectly would fit the cd, and actually LOOK like a cd cover, because it wouldnt be a cut off image and because the hole in the middle would already be there. It took me a few tries to get it right - and the ones that didnt work have like a little ring of dark around them and it looks ugly. I would have liked to have been able to fix those.

what gets me is that the newgrounds staff CAN delete all of a user's music, even those that have been used in submissions and are over 3000 downloads - I mean, look at kingbastard's old submissions- he got them all removed because he got signed, and dreamscaper got all his removed for other reasons. ya people are just idiots that way - Ive always just thought of loops as actual songs. I think that rule is actually an archaic one that wasn't updated, as when the audio portal originally opened, it was only open to submit short loops.

Also I have noticed that when users delete their songs, the song ids remain, useless. About half the song ids are no longer being used. Is there no way of somehow recycling these? Or purging them from the system and simply shifting all the song ids down? Just a thought.

Yeah, I usually just estimate about what it will look like with the corners cut off and the hole in the center. Every once in a while, though I am unsatisfied and wish I could change it.

That's my main one, the other one would be to have an option for people to comment on a piece of music without having to rate it, something like a smaller version of the forums, with a perm thread for each song, or even each artist

in other news.. Why doesnt someone fix the goddamn audio player in the ng mag? It still says loading variables after god knows how many years now - It used to be the hot place to see who was on top in the portal, it had the new awesome users, the ones that best retained their popularity, and the oldies.. and now it doesn't work..

There's two specific inclusion/changes I'd like to see:
- 8-bit Genre section (either subcategorised under Video Games or in the Electronic Category)
- The option to "flag" rather than blam audio submissions. So that in a way where if a piece is either really poor quality, in the wrong category, etc. When there are enough certain flags about a song, a mod can intervene and either move or remove the song.

Well... As I said, the audio portal deserves trophies.
