It would be nice if a block ability was made possibly to stop the silly haters from leaving constant harassing reviews other fans who leave good reviews on our songs... Marking those reviews as abusive only deletes the post and sends them a warning. Yet still allows them to post a new one. Then again this is only a big problem in the hip hop section. I have yet to see this kind of immature shit in the other genres.

I think we should change the voting system, so that you have to review to Rate, cutting down on Zero Bomber's.

And the (colour coded score thingy) that the flash portal has, has to be fixed in the audio portal.

(sorry if these have been suggested, cant be arsed looking through 300+ replies.)

That's all I have to say:)

yeah, its kinda annoying when you have a breakbeat piece or something and nothings there.

and if you're going to talk about stuff like "asian" genres, instead of just focusing on that, go ahead for a worldbeat perspective imo.

i think user-defined categories are a good idea--maybe just have a jungle genre, and fill in the subgenre like IDM or glitch or dnb or whatever.
==
restrict voting to once per song per user, and to counteract blammers, maybe cap the number of 0's you can give in a time period, i know the topic's been discussed a lot before but its the most frustrating issue in the portal IMO when some retards come in and downvote u every 2 seconds.
==
maybe there should be more ways to promote audio, like maybe a recommendation system based on what you seem to like and what users characterize their music as [like a simplified pandora]. that'd be cool, it gets hard when you crap out 30 reviews and 2 ppl actually look at ur work/review.
==
i think reviews need to be stressed more, too many ppl are lazy and just don't leave anything/thoughtlessly vote.
==
also, something should be done about the "i wont listen to this song if the intro is more than 3 seconds" dilemma because i think that, and other issues, forces us to reduce quality of work for random stereotypical unintersting crap to please the masses [i.e. why angelic trance crud is the most popular thing ever on newgrounds and the same overused detuned saw synths and melodic patterns are on like 3/4 of submissions. That's my own opinion, though.

or maybe, just force peopel to listen to songs for set number sof time [i.e. half teh song length or so] before they can vote/review. that would pretty much alienate blammers and force quality control.

In that case they should cap any kind of votes to like 30 per day or something.
Capping only the 0 would be kinda wrong too in a sense.

I just woke up...so figure out what I'm trying to say urself :P

Genres next to the songs on the audio front page. So new songs get hits from people who like that particular genre as opposed to the listener having to click on a song to find out that its a genre they don't like. The same could go with the "best tracks ever section" on the front audio portal page too. At the moment its very much a hit and miss affair as whether the music will be in a genre the listener is looking for or not.

Do amazing audio submissions deserve trophies like in the flash portal? I know the audio portal isnt as popular but I think great audio submissions deserve more than what they are getting at the moment dont you all think?

(Sorry if anything in this post has already been sugested...I just dont have the time to read through 5 pages of long posts)

My main idea is that we should be able to submit stuff besides just music. I mean..we can, but to where it makes more sense. Examples....um, Rage's Prank CallsHe submitted them even though they weren't songs. But he had to say it was a "misilanious song" and such....what about shows and series that are audio only? The artists who suck at flash but have great voice talent?

Well, I'd read the five pages of suggestions, but I feel very strongly about my opinion so I'll just assume that no one else thought of this, but how about more download buttons? The old newgrounds layout had at least two as I remember and one of them specificly said "download." Maybe if this idea is taken seriously, we can get some more downloads. After all, it's really hard to get newbs to click on the little abstract floppy disk looking button thing.

(How about, a download button right in the visualizer, just for the sake of lol?)

They give us money for contests. NG is, and always will be, a flash-centered site. Their first priority is FLASH. FLASH. Not music. Animations. Not audio. Visual.
They didn't have to make the AP, but they did 'cause they're awesome.

Audio is as important as music itself, they give a good start to all authors, give artists music options to put in their submissions and its obvious that not everyone is made to make flash but instead make great music for everyone to enjoy

That's kind of like saying that Flash is as important as animations itself
Or that the BBS is as important as forums itself
Or that etc

I made a time ago a post, where I was suggesting gaining exp and blam and protect points.

Some people say that if there's a blam system the good submissions will be blammed by jeaulous users. I personally don't think so. When people will gain exp from voting, then more users will look at the submissions in the AP, thus a better score, because nowadays a normal song gets something like 15 - 20 votes, but if there would be a blam and exp system more people would come and submissions will get more votes.

This will also stop another problem, the huge amount of songs that have an unfairly high score in the AP. This is because a lot of submissions get only 15 - 20 votes, so It's easy to get your own submissions score up, if more people will vote (let's say 200) then it will be much harder to get the submissions score up, so then the scores will be more accurate.

That problem solves itself eventually. When a song is high in the rankings, it will get zerobombed down mount Doom and even farther into the depths of the Doom ocean, ever how good it is. Always. No exceptions.

I agree with you man, i think this system would both attract mroe users, and there'd be less poor submissions to mislead the attention from the submissions that really deserve it.

They should add more sub-genres in ambient, dark ambient or isolationist ambient. Good idea, no?

It would be nice if there were no "(0 new)" in the audio edit thingy. it would make it much easier to find new reviews.

we should have the ability to download 'albums'

just massive amounts of songs at once, maybe all songs by one artist, just big sound packs to decompress and throw onto our ipod for newgrounds audio enjoyment..

that would make my day, no year of 2008

the thing is it takes to long to single download every song when im bound to like most of the songs i download without listening to, so i just need a huge pack

we do this in stepmania which is a game like ddr for your keyboard, you can download 'simfiles' which are huge packs of songs all in one folder download

On a similar note, I would like to have the option, in addition to the songs by year, to sort out the songs how I want into albums, like, I could create an album with my favourite tracks, or tracks that are in the same style, that way there's an organised system in which I can portray my thoughts on which songs I think they should listen to, or not listen to, and they'd have a clear idea of what style or quality they might hear if they listen to specific albums. I could see it as another option in the edit account menu, audio, albums, and as you create an album, you select the songs you want in it through a drop down menu and order them like you would with your favourites.

Flood control for votes. 1-3 minutes minimum time from each vote. So in case you are a zerobombing dick, and want to bomb an artist's whole repository, or an entire genre's top score songs, you will get an error saying you need to wait <insert time left> before you can vote again. You should not need to vote more than once a minute, since most songs are far longer than that- and you DO listen to the whole song, right? >:(

It will (mostly) stop people who enjoy mass-zerobombing, though not those who just zero a song now and then for kicks though. But it would indeed stop it to some degree

I agree.

And perhaps outlying votes should count for less?

If a song has 20 5's, one zero shouldn't count as much.

So that a massively zerobombed song would stay in the depths of the Doom Canyons of the portal for all eternity?

nah.

I have an idea... I don't enjoy bitching about zero voters but what happened today made me realize it. I know a 4.32 isnt anything to complain about buuuuuuuuut here it is anyways.

So, i was at about 4.44 or something around there so it was far from the top page. Then I check again and it's 4.32.

So this is my conclusion, a single IP/account should only be allowed to vote 0 once. I feel that there could be zero voters with certain songs bookmarked to vote them down. I donno, I'm just thinking someone didn't just happen to zoom through 15 pages of audio to find mine and 0 it. But yeah... one 0 vote on each song forever. That way there arent any reoccuring zero votes. I donno, to even it out maybe only one 5 vote per IP also. So that way it leaves 1-4 to vote as you please. This will help equalize the audio portal so there arent mass zeroers, but also no mass 5 voters of people for themselves.

Doesn't have to do on much about fixing the AP, but on the Front Page above New Submissions; I've never ever seen a Blue or Green tab next to a song. Kind of useless >.<

My main problem is the definition of "good" in the AP.

If you get a score of 3.5 on a flash video, you'd consider it good! On an audio submission... its bad. So, sorry to sound like an elitist, but I think filtering submissions should be seriously considered.

If all of the crappy midi loops got "blammed", then we wouldn't have to deal with so much shit, and we'd get more reviews, as it would be easier for users to find the good submissions over the bad ones.

Also, I wish there was some way to know how good songs are doing on the opening audio screen. I go to the front page and click around... but I have no idea what's good or not, because there is nothing there saying what is. Its simply horrible. I say "I'm in the mood for reviewing" and by the time I've found a song I like or want to review, I've lost the feeling. Its just absolutely inefficient.
