Even if this were true it'd only help us if we could take things from other universes. Or if they could help us further our technology.

I do find it funny how in that article they try to dance around their new breakthrough by just telling us they used some magic mathamatical equations instead of really telling us they did.

Who ever wrote the article completely misunderstood what these scientists have done. Their work simply polished up some concepts in the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. Nothing new has been done, and no new discoveries have been made. In reality this is really fucking old news.

Now while I do find there work to be some what interesting, it will have very little if any baring in science. They have not shown evidence that alternate reality exist, they have not provided any way to test for alternate realities. In fact they really haven't done anything note worthy.

welcome to 1982 when they first said those EXACT THINGS. That story was exactly the same as everything else that has ever been said about parralel universes, they havent come up with a new way of proving thye exist, they've simply said what they always do "you know, science is trickyyyyy." They havent proved it any more now than they had when the idea was first thought up, even if parralel universes did exist, so what? it doesnt help us at all because they are parralel to us, meaning you cant go to another universe, because they dont exist on the same physical plain as you, but one parallel to it. It's just like the coin from their example, if you're on the heads side of the coin, the tails side is parallel to you, you're both a part of the whole coin, but the two sides never meet up, they're jsut parallel to each other

That's as far as you need to read. Everything in theoretical physics is mathematical. The entirety of string theory is entirely mathematical, since there's no possible way to measure anything that relates to it. That doesn't mean that they proved that anything exists, it just showed that they advanced the mathematics of the theoretical idea of an alternate dimension.

modern scientists havent proved anything special that was a theory a few years ago. Recently scientists at cambridge did a study that proved that the longer you are in an ambulance after an accident, the more likely you are to die on the way to the hospital. says it all really.

That's just a theory. Nobody has proved that parallel universes exists, they have only concluded that if they DO, it explains some of the mysteries of quantum mechanics that can't be explained otherwise right now.

Meh, it's not that stupid. Given how mind boggling modern discoveries in science are... I wouldn't be surprised at all if parallel universes exist. Read about quantum mechanics, there HAVE been things that are proven that most people would consider to be fanciful or science fiction.

But, I was just pointing out that there is no proof of parallel universes right now, which the topic starter falsely suggested. All they really did was create a mathematic theory that - under the pretext of parallel universes existing - would explain some of the things that we can't currently explain about quantum mechanics. It doesn't PROVE that they exist, it proved that IF they do exist, they MIGHT be responsible for some of the things we can observe at the sub-atomic level that we can't currently explain. It was highly hypothetical.

I just found out what I just said makes almost no sense.

Ok so people from a parallel universe have such advanced technology that they have a small hand held machine that can travel parallel universes. One of them would go to a universe. And at that point this one person would go to every universe since his parallel of himself would possibly decide to go to this parallel universe while another parallel might go to a parallel of this universe where we are all flying spaghetti monsters. And then one of the parallels of the parallel would give us the parallel machine, thus making it so we could travel through parallel universes.

Did I make it sound any easier? NO!
