Hello,

First off, big post I know....also this is a nonprofit project, just something fun I've been working on. If you're still interested in helping out for free, continue reading.

Well I made this game Custom Cars way back in 2003

Then I helped with Drag Racer 2 and Drag Racer v3 a little after. Thing is I only made the graphics in Drag Racer, and Custom Cars is so poorly made because I know just enough action script to scrape by.

But I've been wanting to make a 2nd version of Custom Cars except obviously with improved everything. Now if you think I want to just make another clone, you'd be mistaken... I've got a lot of original ideas I'd like to try out, something newgrounds hasn't seen. So this may call for more than just one programmer, but if you're interested contact me.

Anyway, let me get to what the game would be about...

Custom Cars 2 (name may change...because it's pretty lame)

Instead of just a customizing car game, I want to add a bunch of RPG elements. Create a character, buy a car, get a job, do some street racing, get sponsored by a company, win money, buy parts, buy clothes, rent apartment, buy stuff for your place, etc etc etc etc.

Gameplay aspects
Garage/Shop: Side view of car, view parts, stats (basically same as how DR and CC look)
Racing: Top down view of car and streets. This would be the difference than the rest. Doing a top down racer would add a lot of detail to the game mechanics and race types rather than just 'Drag Racing'. You could not only drag, but do circuits with drifting. Would also help out with the RPG part of the game. An example would be instead of just clicking a image of a building, you've got to get in your car (or run, GTA I and II style) and go to your destination.

I can't think of anything else at the moment because I don't write notes. But that's basically the jist of it. New car game, cooler than the rest, HUGE project. If it turns out well, who knows, it may become profit or at least other projects may arise that are profit.

So again, if you're interested at all, reply here or contact me at mark@marklemmons.com

For those that are interested, I've got a couple screens I can post or show you when/if you email me.

Thanks,

-Mark L (cow1787)

Sounds like Stick RPG with car racing. Not a bad idea, actually. But I don't really have the time to seriously work on anything big right now, unfortunately.

Yeah, it's similar to Stick RPG (or any other similar RPG) with less of a story-story and more of a live life-story. There wouldn't be any stats or goals other than whatever your personal goals are. If you really like Ford Mustangs but only have enough money to buy a Geo Metro, you got to earn some cash from either working or racing. Once you got the money you and you get the Mustang, you'll be able to fix it up how you want it. Then you just rule the streets. There'd be no real ending, just whenever you get bored or you hit that personal goal of yours. There'd be tons of cars, so hopefully you'll have multiple goals and not stop and just owning one car.

It'd be cool to have some mini-game type things for the actual 'working' part. So you actually Would earn the money. (Starting to get ideas about these mini games now...writing them down, haha)

Another thing like I mentioned before, having your own place. Start out in an apartment which will only allow you one car. Once you get the money you can buy a house, which can store 2 cars, stuff like that.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. If you know of anyone who would be interested let me know.

(bump)

Well whenever you finish your current rpg and are still interested, let me know because it doesn't look like I'll be going anywhere with it.

Here's a couple screens to show how the game will look. Just to show I'm not some noob (only noob to scripting) and I'm serious about the project.

This is actually what I planned to do back then. >_> But if you wanted to include physics like skidding, or your wheels actually pulling the car body instead of just an animated car MC, it's really complicated. :/

And btw, the idea reminds me of Driver for the GBC. You do missions which are mostly time attacks.

Haha, everyone seems to be busy with another project. I'm glad that everyone seems interested in the concept though.

Let me know when you're done with your other projects as I will most likely still be looking for a programmer, haha.

Wow, this game sounds freaking awesome! Unfortunately, I fear I don't have the programming experience to do this. Yeah that's right, no excuses about other projects, I just suck. I just thought I would leave a post to show my support in this game. Good luck and I can't wait!

:D

I could give it a try. I'm not what you would call an expert but I believe I could give you the desired product.

It seems like you're just trying to take need for speed underground-underground2-most wanted and put it into flash.
Not an overly original idea. Honestly, I think you should get over car racing games and move to something else. You're a fantastic artist, but honestly, not too many people really enjoy coding car racing games. Everyone likes to play them, but getting accurate physics and keeping it not overly heavy on the processor is a hell of a job.

Thanks for the input. I agree that it's a pretty hefty project for flash.. tis why I've been trying to optimize my concept some, may be dropping side view all together and just make it a top-down (gta style) type racer/game. I can see that nobody likes scripting racing games since I've been needing help for about 4 years now, haha.

About the idea not being original, I can also see your point too. But that's also my point as well. As Need for Speed definitely does have similar aspects, it's not exactly what I want. Even if I did want something like NFS, there still isn't a Flash game like it. So it would be an original Flash.

Anyway, like I said, I was talking to a guy who suggested dropping the side view all together. Which makes sense, the only reason I've been wanting to keep it is because you can see the most customizing detail on the car.
