Sorry, I should have been more specific. The LCBO liquor prices compared to American liquor are very high, especially when you buy in bulk.

Yah but, why are things still 1.35x higher in canada? Someone is profiting. The whole world is fixed.
I love the way my money looks though. It's sexy as hell and it actually has color and color changing stripes on it. Plus it's better to have the loonie and the toonie. When i was in Boston, I hated having lots of bills in my wallet of little worth. You guys should switch to coins too. It seperates the pocket change from the money of higher worth.
Any news on that Amero shit? I really don't like that idea at all.

Because Canada has higher taxes, both government and provincial taxes.
Also, in order to help domestic Canadian companies, Canada puts tariffs on imports so that they are more expensive (and therefore less purchased) than the equivalent Canadian product. Then, the tariff that is placed on those imports is used to further fund that industry.
Canada doesn't have a very free-market, their government needs tax money and likes to intervene in the market. So any product in Canada is more expensive than they are in countries like the US where there is less government involvement in the economy.
Example, since the Canadian government so tightly regulates the liquor industry, something that would cost $4-$6 in the US that originated from say Mexico, would be 3-4 times that amount in Canada, intentionally so that higher priced Canadian products (that are just slightly cheaper) will be more profitable.
Someone is profiting.

That would put the U.S. and Canada at a severe loss. Mexico and other Southern North American countries with much weaker currencies would reap benefits WAY out of proportion.

Not True.
It'd be vice versa. Atleast if it goes down anything like the Euro. When the EU introduced there currency it was the poor countries that were hit the hardest.

Sticker price for Canadian items is still way higher, and they're around the levels that they were when the US dollar was worth $1.60 CAD.
Taxes are generally added at checkout rather than onto the shelf price.

That's from tariffs.
And higher MSRP is also due to higher taxes. Not on the actual product itself, but the higher taxes, and therefore higher operating costs of companies that transport it, or store it, sell it etc..
Since companies have to pay more taxes in Canada, and fuel prices are more expensive in transporting the products... it adds up to a higher adjusted suggested retail price.
Taxes are generally added at checkout rather than onto the shelf price.
Yes, but the higher sticker price can still be affected by higher taxes, just not on the actual sales tax.

Only things idiots don't want to think about because it's too hard for them to actually get a bit of fact and context in a situation when they'd rather explain it in 3 words.
The fact is that Japan (the 3rd largest economy in the world, one of the most successful in economic performance) has a currency that is 1/10th the value of the currency of a 3rd world country, Mexico. Thus proving that the value of currency doesn't automatically mean better economic performance as some uneducated Canadians would like to think.

No one is claiming that Canada has a stronger economy or anything. Just saying that that the two have reached parity.
Infact it has less to do with the rising looney and more to do with the fact that your economy is in the shitter.
Now, go right ahead, post some over patriotic, elitest, nationalistic rebutle that no really gives a fuck about.
All I wanted to do is bring up the fact that for only the second time ever the two currency's are even. No bragging or anything.

The fact is, the US economy has taken a periodic downturn, that will, as it always has, rebound.
Even factoring in the dip in the US economy, it's still doing much better than the Canadian economy. Which makes it funny you'd say that the US economy is in the shitter, because that would mean that by contrast, Canada's economy is 3 day old shit, festering in the sewer.

I did and you are more of a tool. The fact that Canadian's take this seriously tickle my fancy.
Let's, for a moment, move to the side and look at the Euro. There are cases for the Euro and against it. Not every European nation has decided to adopt the Euro and has decided to keep its own currency. On the plus side it does away with the costs of exchanging money. This leaves more cash in the pockets of the consumers and businesses. It also removes the problem of having to exchange one's currency for those visiting or trading with other countries when everyone is using the same wad of bills. It also ends fluctuations in the value of one countries money in relation to that of another.
On the downside that means one bank and one monetary policy. This also causes problems for those small countries who can't even combat their own economic problems.
I guess the idea of the Amero would have some interesting ideas, especially when "The Case for the Amero" made is sound so sweet it is still a hell of a long way away from being taken seriously or even being considered a good idea. The United States has made no plans in the mention of doing such and the only thing it would do is worsen the economy of the three nations as the United States and Canada try to balance itself with the horribly troubled peso.
Not to mention the only one who would benefit from this would be the United States so why the hell would Mexico and Canada jump on a bandwagon of something when they stand to actually do worse with a single currency.
The only people who take this with a grain of salt are conspiracy theory nuts, government haters, and those who take one economic class in college and therefore are masters of economy.
The Amero isn't even close to flying to the radar range of possibilities yet as they are so many other problems going on for people to be concerned about.
Stop looking for a problem when it isn't even there.
