"The belligerent Latin American leftist warned last week that his recent build-up of sophisticated Russian and Iranian weapons would be used to destroy the British fleet if it attempted to return to the South Atlantic."
I had a quick search on wikipedia about Venezuelan military and apparently they still use FN FAL rifles, IMI UZI'S and the AK series of weapons.
So, reckon he's just trying to look tough infront of his people?

As a Brit, may I just say...feel free to arrest, torture and publicly execute Margaret Thatcher in a slow, painful and spectacular way.

What does he care about the Falkland Islands for?
Somebody's compensating for the inadequacies in his weapons package in his pants, it would appear.

That guy is a dumb ass if he thinks NATO will not come down on his ass for sinking (if he can) the Brit. ships and takeing the Falklands.

Agreed. Dictators tend to do this every now and again to keep morale up in a hell hole of a country.

Give it a few more years and his words would be hollow to even his own people. Let alone the fact that we will stop caring about him.

That... doesn't sound good at all. Chávez keeps disappointing me time after time. At first, I had high hopes for his "21st century socialism", but if this is the direction he's taking, making military threats, I have to take everything back.
Besides, Maradona already revenged for the Falkland Island.

Oooh how frightening. I don't really see how anyone else in the region is going to support him, especially with their history of dictators. The whole continent thinks he's mad.

I don't think that's completely true. even though we did all the fighting, the US (allegedly) aided us with all sorts of intel. Then again, they were also trying to end the war before we'd won it.

Maybe because it's a symbol of imperialism, something he is clearly against.

Not true, he has several supporters. Most of them come from the left, obviously, and the right hates him. He's a controversial figure, let's say.

The Americans provided lots of intel, with its shiny satellites.
It would be a very sad day when another pointless war occurs over those shitty islands.
Agreed, wars = bad.

No. The Islands firstly belonged to the French, and then they gave it to the Spanish govermnent. Then Buenos Aires declared independence from Spain, and therefore, the islands were theirs. There were civil wars between Buenos Aires and the rest of the provinces, a period called in Argentinian history, "The Anarchy", that started in 1820 and ended for good in 1862 with the Unification of the National State , and Bartolome Mitre's presidency. The British Empire invaded the Islands in the 1830s, when what would later become Argentina had a lot of more important issues to solve. They sent settlers, kicking the original Spanish inhabitants of the Islands out. OF course they dislike the Argentine's government rule, since they are British immigrants.

Well, they still don't want to join in with his petty war games, especially as it would give America an excuse to come down hard on the country.

Actually the Falkland Islands were owned by the British inbetween being owned by the french and Spanish.
Anywho, who gives a shit if Britain 'stole' the islands of Argentinia. By your reckoning. Argentinia was stolen from Spain. Which before that was stolen by Spain by from the Natives.
If anything the Falklands should becomed independent, howether it just so happens that they are far to small to be a country and the people living on them consider them selves British.
Probably the worse possible thing Argentina could of done was send a load of young inexperienced conscripted soldiers up against the best armed forces in the world.

I did not know that. link?

Declared independence, it is different, the French didn't invade the country, and claimed it its own. And Spain recognized the Argentinian State, something Argentina has never done with the Malvinas, if you buy an Argentinian map (in Argentina) you'd see that the Islands have a little label that says Arg.
If anything the Falklands should becomed independent, howether it just so happens that they are far to small to be a country and the people living on them consider them selves British.
And are by international laws, rightfully Argentinian, since they are in its submarine platform.
Probably the worse possible thing Argentina could of done was send a load of young inexperienced conscripted soldiers up against the best armed forces in the world.
The Army was in poor shape, it is true, but the Naval Aviation and the Argentinian Airforce has excellently trained pilots, who managed to hit and make useless the Aicraft Carrier HMS Invincible, in a manouver that is regarded as the best since WW2.
We sank the HMS Sheffield , which was considered as one of the most modern of its time.
But war wasn't a smart choice, I agree.

A mix of Italians and Spanish immigrants mostly, the natives were massacred during the Civil war, and during the desert campaign.
