Why are people so obsessed with sex? I'm a girl who thinks it is vastly overrated, messy and time-consuming.

I find a hike more exhilarating. On those rare occasions when I masturbate, I am finished in 10 minutes. No fuss, no muss. I just think far too much time and energy are wasted on sex.

Can I possibly be alone in this ?

the sex drive is a natural result of evolution.however in this day and age where there are already far too many humans it is a unnecessary distraction from far more important things,like art.and btw i am a guy.

As much as i enjoy sex, it's become too 'commercialised' over the last 50 years. Even openly talking about sex in the 50's was frowned upon and you could have been outcast from your social circle/community for such outbursts. Is it worth the time? Yes, IF done correctly.

Most girls don't enjoy it because most boys don't have a fucking clue what they are doing. Also, if you aren't in a meaningful relationship, you probably won't enjoy it much either. I have talked to girls who didn't enjoy sex until they met the "right" guy, so a lot of the time it has to do with who you are with and how you are treated.

It also helps if there is communication involved. This isn't to say hiking isn't great, but personally, given the choice I'd have both.

I do agree that it should not be viewed as a recreational activity, but between people who have been in an exclusive relationship (hopefully this means longer than a few months) and where there is protection I don't believe sex is a bad thing. It can often times strengthen relationships. Also, people who are sexually repressed tend to exhibit more psychological problems (I'm speaking towards the extremes, not abstinence for protection by choice).

Recreational = BAD.
Only Marriage = A little extreme.

I think there is a happy medium in there somewhere. Most people just don't know where to find it.
