Tech UK is reporting a startling new disc storage technology that could end the HD war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray: the Tera-Disc. How much data? On a 1TB disc, you could store 212 DVD-quality movies, 250,000 MP3 files or 1,000,000 large Word documents.

Hello 100$ movies?
That is pretty amazing though, even if I did read about it a long time ago.

whats the point of having a a disc like that for two hour movies?
now putting the entire season of the simpsons and friends on it . . .
Faith tramples all reason, logic, and common sense.
PM me for a sig.
Hold shit. You could fit the entire 9 seasons of Seinfeld and special features on one disc! Goodbye tedious disc changing.

Just cause it can store more does it make it a threat. First off, it's by a company that isn't established and doesn't have any studio support. Second, by the time it's out the HD war will probably be over as Blu-ray has taken a substantial lead already. Third, It's going to be fucking expensive, more expansive then Blu-ray. Would you trust a company you've never heard of if Sony and Microsoft are offering an adaquet experince for less?
This is like the Gizmondo. Much better then a PSP or DS but flopped anywas simply cause it can't compete with such international, iconic, super-comapnies.

I believe DVD is still in the lead out of them all.

And how much would these things cost?
There is a war going on in you're mind. People and ideas all competing for you're thoughts. And if you're thinking, you're winning.

I don't thin it'll end the new format war as something that HUGE in regards to storage capacity would have no other use other than putting entire series on it.
However, it may still do quite well as a general storage device. Make it re-writable and you could literally store your entire hard drive on a single disc, which means you won; have to worry about running out of spac eon your Memory stick.
It'll cost a bomb though, so it'll probably only be used by companies at first until the price comes down till the average Joe can use it.

They actually expect people to spend that much money on a disk? I'd rather just use DVD's, although it would be cool to have every Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode on one disk, with enough space left over for a whole bunch of other stuff.

It will be too expensive and will fall flat on it's face... only to come out at a later date.

Nah, it'd be too expensive to replace DVD. It does sound awesome though.

Wow.
That's pretty insane.
I want a rewritable one of those.
That'll blow away flash drives, too.

All I can say is, WHY THE FUCK DOES IT MATTER. I've seen all those comparison pictures, the quality of the image is exactly the same.

But on a Tera-Disc you can store an uncompressed video. For an average 90 minute movie thats about 200gb. Can you imagine how good that will look?

Nah, the Yottabyte will blow that shit away. What can we expect in the near future.
The Yotta-disk, the Red-Ray, and the HHDDVVDBVD/HHD DVVD BVD.

If it only were somewhat cheap (One terrabyte, damnit. That's over ten times more than my HD got). But it will probably be way too expensive.
File size is limited to 40k.
