I find the new ads just as annoying as pop-ups. But at least before I never got the pop-ups because I'm not an idiot and I can use a pop-up-blocker

is there anyway to turn it off? its so damn annoying!

Wow those ads are annoying but if they bring in the bling I'll get use to them.

I like the ads, its not colorless and bland anymore :)

It lags my computer badly. In addition, I'm having to type things outside of this just to be able to type a message because the Message panel is so laggy as well.

Remember, not everybody has a top of the line computer, so you can't expect to keep putting more content ontop of more content without lag problems.

Please create a light version of the site for those of us with lower-end computers. Otherwise you will likely drive off lots of users/viewers.

Oh so that's why I haven't noticed the new ad thing, I have Adblock Plus.

And just like the other guy said, does Newgrounds still get ad money even if users use Adblock?

It's way less annoying than pop ups.

Yeah, I actually get really tempted to give it a go with in-page Flash... Where the Flash is under the navbar and all the information is underneath... If we ever did that, it would probably be a mess to try and offer lightbox and pop-up as alternatives... So it would be a single option. We would also still need to deal with under judgment submissions differently - such as a thumbnail that expands into the submission when you click it. We might dabble with all that eventually.

honestly i think the lightbox is an excellent way to show flash, but on really big ones i have to switch to fullscreen to view or play them properly, and sometimes the arrow controls dont work well because its still working with the page and not the flash, but thats as easy as clicking on the flash to lake it work again :P.

in-page viewing might be more problematic, some flashes might be wider than 800 pixels (altho thats kida rare) and therefore mess with the page layout, im not sure since i dont know much about coding.

anyways the only downside i see to the lightbox is that it kinda slows down compared to the pop up option, but people should be already aware of that, if the flash is choppy then just switch to pop up :)

tom, the ad you showed in your screenshot on the first page was great. however, i would avoid using any ads that are bright for the ones surrounding the flash. just earlier, i watched an animation on the front page and the ad surrounding the flash was bright, and distracting. imagine if you were trying to watch tv and i had two people stand to the left and right of the tv and wave flashlights around. stick with the less distracting, darker ones. distracting ads never get clicked, people just refresh to make it go away.

also, anyone thinking NG is selling out, fuck you. if you want to see selling out, go to ebaumsworld.

personally, the "skin" adevertisements are REALLY annoying... i hate them.

I find them to distract from the flash too much also... so now I opt to choose the popup player, to avoid the new ads. I realize that you need to make money somehow, but I don't think this is the way to go with it.

I also realize that my opinion is just my own, so I don't expect them to leave unless a majority of the people say the same thing... (I don't feel like reading everyone elses reply to this, since there are just too many and it would take too long - the first page was enough for me to see that alot of people don't seem to care)

On a related topic - why would anyone NOT use the 'popup' option instead of the embedded flash (as it always was before the overhaul)? I always use the popup, so the main window does not get hijacked, and I can press back and do something else while the movie is loading.

Well, at first I was annoyed by the ads. As you say, they are visually distracting, and having them around a movie or game absolutely murders its aesthetics.

But since they're only used on the latest and greatest movies and games, and then only for a couple days, I guess I can live with them if the revenue it brings in leads to positive changes all around the site.

It just better be worth it. I loved the black background and this feels like a step backwards.

It's basically a cheap trick to get advertisers to pay extra for accidentally clicking anywhere on the screen... Any advertiser in their right mind wouldn't pay per click.

yeah...it is a little slow with the loading games and how some of the flash movies and games just vanished off the site now (a ton from castlevania)..and how you have to watch the flash movies in full screen view to see the whole thing now...other than that and like everybody else with the pop-ups then the site is fine

I remember the pop-up times with all the Bonzi Buddy stuff and other crap. It was annoying.

I'm not a fan of them. They're pretty distracting.

Meh, they don't annoy me at all, and if it brings money then i would have nothing to complain about. Don't listen to these fools tom, they apparently are too spoiled from their pop-up blockers to realize sometimes you have to sacrifice some things to make others better.

I Like The Way That The Ads Are Done For The Flash Movies, I Think It Works A Lot Better Than Most I Have Seen, And It Does Not Take Away From The Viewing Experience

Sounds good Tom, but I like the way things are now...the ads arent that bad exacpt when you get those annoying spam ads, is there any way you could kick those off the site without losing any ad revenue? I'll give it a shot, not that i have a choice, but i hope it doesnt turn out to be a pain in the ass...

I see no harm in a few more adds with the movies... hell, if it helps Newgrounds as a whole, go for it... and as i see it getting rid of all of the annoying pop-ups is an added perk.

You could put that kind of add on games, but that might cause a problem with accidental clicks...
