The Ad's seem fine. They aren't great, but if they keep the site up then they are worth it.

Recommendation: Make it so that it opens a new browser window on a click, rather than changing the current tab/window.

Because in that way, one can view the ad's link while the movie is loading and not have to go back and reload it, for instance.

I have to say, i've seen the ad's at work and i quite like them. i don't think they distract to much (but can imagine those reebok classic adverts all in white getting on my nerves eventually...bloody chav's) and to be fair, they must work, as it made me download the wallpaper you were using at the time !!

I'm all for it. After all the work put into this site, it's hardly fair for us to complain about the amount of ads on it. As long as you don't go EBaum on us and start throwing pop-ups all over existence, I'm fine.
There's only currently two ads per page. They're unobtrusive banner ads, and usually they're of good clean content (with the exception of the adult ads on the mature submissions- which, I appreciate, btw, are kept to the mature submissions alone).
You guys are doing a lot of work for people who don't pay a cent (all these millions of people are getting free entertainment) and are constantly giving back to the artists (through contests, sponsorships, and other stuff), and are completely justified in adding more advertisements to the site.
No complaints from me.

i think what newgrounds really needs right now is a you tube style embeddable flash player.
people would then be able to put NG flash on their websites, exposing newgrounds and you could include a google text ad type thing to the bottom of it..
it would increase newgrounds popularity a huge amount in sure.

I only see the same ad every time i watch a movie. It is annoying!!!

If this ad format works, the first thing it does is relieve our dependence on other forms of advertising. This doesn't mean the other ads will go away, but it should mean the quality of the remaining ads will improve, as we can be more picky with the remaining space. Also, our goal is to never bring pop-up ads back to Newgrounds - and these ads help ensure that.

At the least, these ads will enhance our ability to sponsor more artists / programmmers and run more contests. Keep in mind that Newgrounds isn't funded by a large parent company or venture capital - we have to earn every dollar we spend improving the site. A lot of "web 2.0" sites can't say that. More and more well-funded businesses scour NG for talent and lock NG contributors into exclusive deals to take them away from NG - we'd like to be able to compete with that.

At the best, these ads will allow us to do some VERY BIG things... Things I don't want to hype up until we give this ad format a spin around the block.

yh it is a good ad format ratherthan the links cos evrytime u mis move oyur mouse click new site (lose game) not on high socre list dammit kil the pc and such and such so usethat ad format tom

:P For the background thing.... To be honnest when i first saw it i was more concentrated on your drawing than on the moovie :P That's realy cool nice job, but a bit disturbing. If its to eart more $$ than that's cool!

I dislike the idea. Many of us animators don't want everyone encouraged to put our movies on their sites. Our flash get stolen enough. We put them only on a select few sites for a reason. If we want this to be allowed, we upload them to YouTube.
I also doubt this would do much for Newground's popularity. It might even detract from it (people taking the exclusive flash NG has and putting them on other pages, negating the reason many come to Newgrounds).
It's already one of the five hundred most viewed websites in the entire world (#440 according to Alexa.com). Exposure isn't what NG needs. It's those millions of people that come seeing more ads, thus earning more money for the site.

No, i thik the ad system is really intrusive. having the attention span of a gnat, it really damages my viewing experiance on newgrounds. Won't stop me from watching, and i'm sure you'll get more money, but i really don't like it.

To all: if you really cannot view Flash without being distracted by the ads, then I suggest using the "Pop up view" link, which opens a new window which does not have the emded ad around it.

it annoys me a little. sometimes I have to look at the surrondings, but since theres pice with a glowing light, i guess it could be exceptable....

why dont you just alpha out the ads a bit around the drawing or darken them - that way theyre still there but not distracting? Just a thought.. dunno if its been raised already..

i think if anything it would reduce the amount of flash that is "stolen"
the flash files would be in their original unedited form, with newgrounds branding around it.
the last thing it would do is negate the reason people would come here, it would just make it so newgrounds is in more places.. giving new people a teaser of newgrounds and getting more people here.
it works for youtube.
and as i said, the player could include an ad space.. revenue..!

I seem to be having trouble closing windows now in cinematic.

I click the close button but it still doesn't go away.. only the flash goes away.
