Please Help!

There is this game for the PS1 that I played as a kid. Maybe you know it. In it, you were a young aged kid, about 12, and you had a dog. Then you would go into a different universe and fight shadows. I think you fought with a flashlight. I know it is very vague, but does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Its a bloody hard game only beat it 2 times im trying to beat it on hard mode. :)

For some reason that reminds me of the game where you had to catch monkey's with a net, because one of the moneky's had super intelligence, or something.

I did, but the name that was stated doesn't ring a bell so I'm lead to believe thats not the name.. And on another note the dog part really "dumb founded me" Because i honstly can't remember anything about a dog...
