Everyone saying that animes are only for young children have only watched the crappy dubbed animes, played on Cartoon Network and 4kids midday. Real anime is far more violent, unfortunately I have a hard time getting hold of anything really good.

And while the dubbed, shitily(?)-voice-acted, almost bloodless massacre known as American Naruto generally sucks balls, the original Japanese animes and mangas kick ass. Same with One Piece.

You're never too old, since they arn't made for kids.

Why the hell are people on this forum so ignorant? Honestly, anyone who thinks that anime is for kids either hasn't seen any decent anime, or is too stupid to understand what the hell is going on in any TV show that's more complicated than Pokemon. In fact, you don't even need to have a brain to realize that some of the anime that gets imported to America is targeted toward adults, and I'm not talking about Hentai.

Someone in this thread said that an anime fan should be no older than 12 years. What?! 12 years? Give me a break. 12 years would be the minimum age for most of the anime that I've seen. I have a seven year old half brother, and if I were to let him watch real anime, he'd probably cry.

Need examples?

Take a look at Cowboy Bebop. You'll find murder, graphic violence, drug use, and partial nudity. Not good enough? Go watch Samurai Champloo. More graphic violence, more drugs, and in at least one episode, prostitution. How about Paranoia Agent? Among other things, prostitution comes up again, along with a few other perverted details that the animators don't even try to hide. And then there's the classic film, Princess Mononoke. Among other violent events, there's a scene in which a guy's head gets shot off. Have you seen Blood: The Last Vampire? A schoolgirl gets hacked with a sword. Shocking amounts of blood. And then there's Elfen Lied. I've only seen clips of it, but I already know that the show is insanely violent, and has plenty of nudity.

And then there's my favorite anime, Fullmetal Alchemist. There's plenty of childish humor, but have you actually watched an entire episode? There's loads of violence, especially later on in the series. People die. Children die. Heads explode. Limbs are blown off. Two characters consider suicide, and one attempts it. Three main characters lose their parents and become orphans. Several people are shot and/or stabbed in the head. An elderly woman is sliced in half from top to bottom (although the corpse is seen only briefly). One female character is presumably raped by a soldier. A race is almost wiped out by genocide. IS THIS SHOW FOR KIDS? SERIOUSLY, IS IT?

For Cartoon Network anime, birth. Other than that, I could care less. I don't watch any anime anywho.

mmm. it's not only anime i'm gonna be still watchin when i'm old but most cartoons, i've been a fan of animation for as long as I can remember, though i'm not happy how most cartoons are seen and made today as "being just for kids", I can undersatnd curtain shows are for and made specially for the younger generation, and with [AS] we have "cartoons for adults" but when i was young, people would create cartoons that not only entertained kids, but all ages, it had humor everyone could get. now eh... no one seems to be getting it right, I've went and watched most of the cartoons i saw as a child and I still find them funny. animation has no age.

i would say anything past 40 is pushing it a little on the strange side, but then again there are fans out there that are well beyond 60s. idc really, but it is a little disturbing when you see some old folks in cosplay at otakon or comicon or some other convention dealing with all that

Not all anime is for kids, stuff like pokemon and Card captors sakura is yes, but i doubt kids will understand stuff like Paranoia agent , Ghost in the shell, Evangelion.
