If I'm going to have my music manufactured I'd rather have somewhat melancholy pop than distressed, overwrought, angst ridden alt-metal. Sorry, I just don't find any of those bands you listed interesting at all (marilyn manson can be interesting sometimes). Not that avril is overtly fascinating, but at least her music doesn't drone repetively.
Don't get me wrong - I love metal. It's just that I like bands who try to do stuff which is interesting with their music. Morbid Angel, Emperor, Meshuggah, even SOAD (although their over exposure has kind of put me off them).

Now if you read all that I wrote there, your probably thinking I'm a huge wanker who analyses music waaay too much, and who has also conveniantly avoided applying any sort of scrutiny to Avril. Well, I just like her music. I don't know why. I know why I hate most of those nu/alt metal bands you listed - I find them boring.

Hmmm... I wrote all of that and have come to the conclusion that none of you will be any wiser for reading it. What a rambling pile of shit. I guess if write a couple of succinct and somewhat accurate observations I can redeem this post.

I don't know why you like that shit, and you don't know why I like the shit I like. But if everyone liked the same shit everyone else liked, how boring would the world be? How many of the things that keep life interesting would simply fail to exist?

NB: Avril is definitely not punk, but why should she only be judged on her image? Isn't her music, which is solid pop as good as anything else out there, what's more important?

People listen to her because they like what she sings about . Most of the majority who like though her are apathetic and ignorant .
