Us Draft For War On Terror?

I know that this is completely unrealistic and would be suicide for any politician to suggest it, but I believe that a draft would actually be the right thing for establishing security in Iraq, and to take it further, I would suggest that if the US were ever serious about winning the War on Terror, we would have enstated it from the beginning.
Current Active Personnel: 1,426,713
Forces in Iraq:
Invasion: roughly 300,000 Coalition Troops
Currently: roughly 168,000
One of the largest criticisms of the War was the decision to go in with so few troops. More soldiers on the ground allows for the timely restoration of critical services to the Iraqi people (electricity, etc.), more security, and more people to train Iraqi Police, Military, etc.
All of that applies to Iraq (which I suppose is fixable even without a draft), but as for the entire War on Terror, the whole idea of deposing Governments who support, or harbour Terrorism, it seems unlikely that we'd be able to win such a War on so few troops.
My overall point: If we were ever serious (or responsible) about the War on Terror, we would have been less hesitant to the draft. Basically, go far, or don't go at all.
Opinions?

That's probobaly a good idea but you'd need complete support of the war from the public and those that support the wat still probobaly aren't willing to die for it.
And what sort of thing are you talking about, everyone born on this day, goes over or those unemployed.
PS I'm in Australia things may be a bit different over there.

I'll come to Canada and get me some maple syrup then go back to the states and beat up the politician that instated the draft. The maple syrup is for drinking.

the reason they do not have enough people is because nobody agrees with the war.
if we agreed with it, mor people will enlist.
if they start the draft there will be many draft dodgers, just like last time.

Dude, I totally agree, we need more wars, that way we can have our rights taken away even faster! You definitely know what you're talking about.
Lol, in 20 years we won't have rights. All because of the executive branch gaining more and more power with this excuse, fun.

OK, a few facts.
1) Everyone in Iraq today signed up AFTER we declared war.
2) The army is voluntary.
3) Not even close to 10% of the army is in Iraq/Afghanistan.
Next?

Here we go, military action as another excuse to justify liberal paranoia that right wing governments [Never the left wing one's that only desire to raise taxes to fuedal levels] are trying to take away they're rights. [Mind give i already explained the kind of rights that liberals will be defending in the next 200 years]
No... a draft would be innefficient because it doesn't solve the problem that occurs with this kind of occpuation, no one would support the bill for a draft, modern warfare doesn't work with vast hordes ol poorly trained troopers.

I heard there is a shortage of Green Berets. I'd rather have a few more of those guys than a vast horde of poorly trained grunts. After all, this is a war that cannot be won by weapons alone.

We do all realize that terrorism will NEVER end, right? It's going to be their forever? So what, you suppose that we instate a draft for the rest of time, despite the billions and billions in would end up costing to maintain such a huge army that we wouldn't need?
The issue you don't seem to get is that Iraq is only a figurehead for the War On Terror. Like the Cold War, the War on Terror is a passive one. Whilst in may be accepted to institute a draft for Iraq during the WOT (as it was excepted to institute a draft for Vietnam during the Cold War), anyone suggesting we win the Cold War by implementing a draft would have been laughed into obscurity.

I can't even beleive that people think it's logical that the government would instill a draft, but it's in all entirety impossible that they would legalize things like dope, public nudity and prostituion.
Blitzgreig warfare is ABSOLETE. You don't win a war with a horde of average americans.
Plus, Drafts are bad for the economy, and we'd have to start drafting women as well. [Lest we damn ourselfs with sexual discrimination]

I don't think anyone who has posted here has said they wouldn't fight and die for THIS country. Where the conflict comes in is when people have to die for someone else's country.

Canadian authorities actually signed an agreement with the U.S. Government a few years ago stating that they would gladly deport draft dodgers seeking asylum in their country. So you wouldn't get much sympathy from them for your plight. Which I don't blame them, seeing as how you have to actually have to sign up for the selective service to begin with in order to be drafted.
Oh, and btw? Historically speaking, Democrats have enacted the draft more often than the Republican Party has. Just some food for thought.

In fact currently I hear it's extreme Democrats voting for the draft in order to make an anti war statement.

Of course you do. It's required by law, and if they can show you willfully and knowingly did not register, you could be fined up to $250,000 or up to 5 years in jail.
