I haven't experienced this before, but I have seen it happen. I'm really not sure why this happends, but I guess chicks have that whole "Being Young" obsession, and keep that image of being young by dating older dudes.

At that age it's a bit odd to be dating someone two years younger than you, especially if it's across the university/high school gap.

Put yourself in their position. Would you date someone who is probably incapable of caring for you? Usually, someone who is younger indicates that they either:

A). Don't have a job
B). Have a job, but it's shitty and low-paying
C). Is just a horny bastard looking for pussy.

Any way you look at it, it doesn't look promising for the person who will be accepting the date.

For young girls, they want an older boyfriend because they feel more secure and also because they're looking for someone who they assume is more sexually experienced. In adult relationships, the woman prefers an older man because that way she remains the young one in the relationship. Remember, women are culturally conditioned to be obsessed with youth and beauty, so anything, ANYTHING that enforces either of those concepts makes them happy, even if it's as simple as being with an older man (making them by default, younger).

I don't count blood gushing from an orifice as a sign of maturity, girls just want older guys.

Like other people said I think it has something to do with maturity and asociating age with it. The older you are, the cooler and more mature you must be. Sometimes that theory is true, other times it's not.

Though I've never had this age problem. My girlfriend is 364 days older than me and it's never been a problem at all. We both like each other for who we are, which should be the only thing that matters. But we don't live in that world, at least not when we're young...
