To redress the issue brought up at the beginning of this thread, I offer my opinion: increasing the voting power of higher level users through grounds gold accounts is very good, but it isn't quite enough to balance the influence of newbies who are making dumb decisions just to rack up blam and protection points. The only way to make the system balance is to encourage more voting by more high level people. After all, everybody gets to vote on 5 movies a day for experience. Most people vote for 5 and log off for the day. There has to be incentives for high level people to "do overtime" and deliberately look for movies like "DELETED" that anybody with any sense at all knows shouldn't be on the site.

A certain level of responsibility for the upkeep of the newgrounds community content naturally rests on the shoulders of the high level users who helped to build it. Any ideas on how to encourage users in the upper eschelon to vote on more things would be interesting to discuss, and our suggestions could be forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Newgrounds.

Here are a couple of my ideas:

Once a user has reached a certain level, grounds gold should require him to vote on more flash animations to deposit his or her experience. I am not sure how this could work, but perhaps he or she could get more experience, or points towards secrets, or another incentive altogether.

If this is unfair, users should get some kind of incentive for doing "overtime" like points toward secrets. Access to secrets should be assessed on a different points system so that people of a high enough level (say...beyond level 15) have some reward for hunting out crap and protecting things that just newbies are attacking for the sake of blam and protection points.

If high level users are voting on ten animations (or even seven) instead of five every time they log in, it would go a long way toward preventing stupid crap from persisting on the site.

I agree a lot of misvoting happens. A lot of good stuff gets blammed because some people's standards are too high, and other stuff gets saved because there's too many n00bs hungry for meaningless blam/protect points.

First off, he insults everyone. Some of these n00b voters deserve it, but nobody is going to listen to someone being an asshole about things.

Yesterday, two Flashes were submitted by ViktimStudios, "Chronos Trigger: The Fart" and a movie that had "DELETED" in GIANT, bold, black letters (it was like that when it was submitted). The Fart movie wasn't a masterpiece, but it deserved a decent score. Well, it got blammed, and the "DELETED" movie got saved!

Now I agree with him about the "deleted" movie. But the other one, while being better, still may not have been of the quality that deserves to be on the portal. It a matter of opinion.. And obviousely the popular opinion said it wasn't good enough. He flat admits it wasn't anything spectacular.

Damn right, use your fuckin' brain. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but don't abuse it. For example, if you don't like Neurotically Yours, that's cool. Just don't be saying it's gay just because you don't like it.

Just because someone makes good movies doesn't mean he doesn't also make bad ones. Now I'm not supporting the persecution of authors, but we have the right to zero something if it sucks.
