I was checking out this website recently, when I stumbled upon a rather interesting text. Turns out cmpanys in the world have the patent to your genes.

Heres the link, its long, but trust me, it is incredibly interesting and brimming with information.

http://bitterfilms.com/head.html

Its like 3 main storys bunched into one, including many others; a man getting part of him stolen, wich somehows rightfully belongs to the hospital, a brief histoy of the DNA and how somehow big companys all over the world owns genes, yes, the genes inside you and me, the genes wich every living being has.

Please read it.

They don't own the genes inside of you NOW... do they? They can only patent it once they actually altered them in some way or another, but right now, we're mostly all natural, so they don't own us, those bastards.

Wait till those corporate fuckards make us pay a rent for our own body and awful immoral crap like that. Only communism will be able to save us then ( that's saying how high the odds are for us ).

The only thing they can do with it is clone you. They don't own your body just the blueprints to your genes.

Then again, there's always the possibility for genetic profiling in jobs. Such a wonderful world.

I must lollerskate on this matter.

I'd only read a bit initially, but yes, that was very informative. Personally, I don't care what good plans Venter or that old guy at the end thing this kind of technology will bring. I think Venter argued that patents are always published and non-secret. I don't see how that's supposed to make anyone feel any safer about the project considering John Moore got royally screwed out of 1.5 mil and was cheated behind his back. I'm all for scientific progression, but this takes it way too far. Oh, and btw, genetic profiling was an issue brought up in there (i.e. genetic discrimination). Just crazy how you give some people an inch and they take the whole damn world. Makes me sick.

hahhahaha... HAHAHAHHAHAH!!! CLONES OF ME!!! HAHAHAHAHHHHH!!!!! that would be so hilarious, i would almost make out with myself except that i dont find me particularly attractive. id just be my own best friend and we would rule.. RULE!!! *ahem* anyway.. *sigh* its too bad that such a wonderful thing as genetic engineering is being bought up like this, but i figured it would happen anyway. as long as they dont say they actually own my body and its services im ok. hell its all just good free enterprise.. right??? RIGHT???

i would totally genetically engineer myself to be stronger, faster. etc. the only thing i wouldnt touch is my mind or my children. they would have to make up their own minds about being engineered. the only thing i would ever touch in their DNA is something that would prevent terrible diseases in their future, or them having scholiosis (curvature of the spine, most people have it to some degree during adolescence) and therefore several back surgeries like i did. i would want to spare them that.

i lurve my dna! i LURVE messing with it!!! woohoo! and for all you god-lovers out there.. heck if god gave us these bodies and the capacity to have the knowledge to make them better.. arent you better serving him by making yourself (his creation) the BEST IT CAN POSSIBLY BE?? i certainly think so.

it reminds me of this weird diet i saw out there that was actually really smart.. it was the biblical diet to help people lose weight. basically you ate what jesus ate (natural meats, fish. nuts, lots of fresh veggies and whole grains, no preservatives or saturated fat unless natural or partially hydrogenated soybean oil). it was kind of werid, but hey, if believing in jesus and his diet reduces the percentage of obese people in the US, im all for it.

Wow, make out with yourself, huh? LOL, that would trip me out sooooooooooooooooo bad. To see someone else kissing themselves that is, not me kissing me. I'd have to kick my ass...errr....my clones ass...which is essentialy me...woah, my head hurts. Anyways, I don't think modifying ones own genetics are bad, really. The line for me in genetics is building human life from scratch or putting all the pieces together. That's just messed up. I totally agree that I'd never touch my own child with that kind of technology unless he was going to have down syndrome or something. *you had to have back surguries? I'm sorry, that must have sucked :( * As for making myself better and faster through means of this technology, puh leeeese......I prefer robtoics; I want arm that shoots lasers!!! Mwa ha ha ha ha!!!!

We can all expect to be sued- every cell in our bodies is copyright infringement.

So when I get my hair cut, I can be sued for property damage? No, that's just silly.

What these patents pertain to, is use of certain genes in medical research.

ROBOT ARMS!!!!!!!! i would TOTALLY replace my body with a cyborg and just keep my brain in it and then my ovaries frozen somewhere. that is freaking awesome.

yea 2 back surgeries really sucked, but i did massive physical therapy and now i can do yoga and am really flexible plus i got recruited onto wisconsin's lightweight crew team (they are ranked #2 in the nation now i think) even tho most of the top half of my spine is fused together. i also have 2 steel rods in my back. its a pain in the ass sometimes but nothing you can't get over with a little hard work and that wonderful morphine iv drip they give you in the hospital. the only thing that REALLY sucked about it was having to be in a huge brace for 2 months and not being able to shower for the same amount of time.

if anything i think the 2nd surgery helped me. i had it freshman year of high school and i was suffering from severe clinical depression and the surgery just gave me lots of time to think and help get myself out of my dark pit so to speak.
