Well... There are tutorials here which are really useful... try watching some of this:

http://www.newgrounds.com/collection/fla shtutorials.html

At least you have to understand the 2 ways of animation:
-Motion tween
-Frame by Frame (FbF)

In the first one, the computer animates one objet, in the second one, you re-draw everything. Combining these two techniques you can do great things.
Also, look for tutorials in other sites.

well... first off you should decide if you want to do frame by frame animating, or tweening!

frame by frame: it is hard, and it gets boring pretty fast, but you will see some good results when you get good at it, and want to take yourself the time.
also its properly the easiest to LEARN (not get good at)

tweening: lets you spent more time on graphics because you dont have to redraw it all the time, but just move it a bit and put on a tween.
i can get good but it gets to perfect and sometimes it gets a robot motion.
only the human touch will add the charm to the movie by making small errors and so.
when you have learned tweening its properly the easiest but tweening characters can be a bit hard to learn, and there isn't any good tutorials for noobs imo.

now you can look at these to options and see what fits you best and ill try to help you getting started IF you promis not to make a post with such a stupid name again.

Rawr, you don't need to freak out about it, sooner or later a mod will show up and deal with the problem. And I'm going to lock this after my post.

@OP: If you're serious about learning the art of animation I suggest getting one or both of these two fine books on the subject:

The Animators Survival Kit, by Richard Williams
and
Cartoon Animation by Preston Blair
