Listen to their own music in their free time? It just seems strange thinking about it.

If it's a cover song, maybe. But I doubt for for sake of leisure.

their music is in their head. they listen to it every second of the day. then they build off of it.

I'm a musician and I listen to my music (even though the stuff I recorded sucks). I know that George Micheals does (lol) but I think every should artist should, to note where they nailed it and where some improvement could be needed.

where do u think they get their inspiration/ideas and stuff? they probably listen to more music than all of us
n1 - I think what he means is, do they listen to their own material - like, does Slipknot put on an album by Slipknot to listen to?
I think probably not - it's not like they aren't sick of performing the songs already, without putting them on at home/in the car etc.
just used slipknot as an example

When I listen to music that I've made, I tend to be critique it quite a lot to see what can be improved next time I make a song, or if I go back and edit it. So yeh, I think big musicians do sometimes listen to their own songs.
Only occasionally though, otherwise it would just be shallow.

Oh, no, we definitely do that. I listen to my music all the time just because I think it's cool.

I know I would;t want to hear it after writing it, re-writing it and rehersing it for 2 weeks... I would rather put in some Sublime. :)
Please disregard the above post.

I listen to my music ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I am my own biggest fan (but I'm also my harshest critic). I don't think it's strange because I wouldn't make music I don't enjoy, so if I enjoy it, why not listen to it? It's so far from strange.

I listen to it for both of those reasons. Why not for pleasure? Don't you think a musician would make music that (s)he likes?
How can a person who makes music expect to move anybody else with their music if they don't move themselves?

Everyone must, because most Musicians are full of themselves. Just like how actors watch their movies.

I kinda understand, I mean, if you make music constantly, you'd get tired of it. But of course, they've gotta get inspired by something (a.k.a) music.

What I've gathered from interviews, most don't, since they've heard them enough when going over them for dozens/hundreds of times in the studio, and playing it live.

That makes sense to me. I've heard some musicians get sick of their own work too, so they probably try to listen to other stuff as much as possible for some freedom, diversity, and influence.

I don't know about other people, but I hate listening to myself even though I love playing.

Sometimes all I do is listen to older songs that I've made.
