And I disagree. The thing with anatomy books is that, while they are great for learning about how the human body works, most of that stuff is relatively unseen. When you see a naked person, yes you can see the abs and deltoids and alot of the main muscles. But not every fibrous tissue shows through the skin, unless the person is emaciated.
Drawing from a model is good because it allows you to see all the different body types out there. I am talking about nude models of course. You get to see what genetics really does to human flesh, and not just the generic perfect structure that one sees in an anatomy book. Fat, cellulite, and bone structure. People with long arms, people with short arms, middle aged mothers, old dudes. Life drawing lets you draw from life. See how people really look when they are out in their element.

Secondly, anatomy lessons arent going to help this kid. Do you want to see his bland anime girl with every muscle fiber imaginable glistening through her mutant skin? I think not. He needs to learn the basic form of the human body before he goes and starts doing detailed drawings. When he knows he can get the basics of the human body down, then he can move on to detailed realistic drawings that require a full knowledge of how human anatomy works.
