Hippies often complain about "The Man keeping us down", but what do they mean by this? Is The Man a metaphor for something, or do hippies actually believe there is some sort of corporate beholder controlling the world? Or do they just use the idea of The Man as an excuse rather than examining their own faults and trying to improve?
