Today I got Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s and here is my review of it. This is my first try at a game review so bare with me okay?
Rocks the 80s is mostly an expansion pack for Guitar Hero II, featuring the same Characters (with all new 80s clothing) with the exception of Lars Ulmant (sp?) and Casey Lynch and the unlockable characters , the same playing venues, and guitars as its predecessor. The game was probably just made keep the fanboys under control until Guitar Hero 3 comes along.
Music 7/10
The music consists of all the hair metal 80s classics we have come to know and love. The main downfall is that you can barley hear the singer. I know the main focus of the games is the guitar but it just doesn't feel the same if you cant hear the words. Also most of the songs are easy to play because they have long strong out notes, which can make it kind of boring in a six minute song. But all in all the selection is pretty good.
Gameplay 9/10
Gameplay is the same as all the other guitar heros. These songs tend to be easier, maybe for newbies to the series so they can get sucked in before the third one comes out.
Replayability 9/10
Play a song, get 5 stars. Repeat. Simple concept but works great. Like with the other guitar heroes You won't want to put down the controller to do less important things like go to work or school (honestly who needs school when your a GUITAR HERO). The main con is there are no bonus songs to unlock and only one bonus character, and all the same guitars and finishes as Guitar Hero 2.
Overall 8/10
A great one to have if your a hardcore fan of the series like me or you are just starting out. Most of the songs are fun to play but can get boring. If your a hardcore guitar hero and can Dish out the 40+ bucks, then get it. But if your just a cheap bastard wait a while for the price to go down and get it. It is worth it.
