I think the militia hiding in Lexington waiting for the British to fire first so they wouldn't take the blame.

Research war-fare of the middle gunpowder age [Colonial] usually the attacker fires off serveral cannon shots to alert the opposing force of they're arrival, and to either stand and fight or flee.
On a moving train there are no centrists, only radicals and reactionaries.

well what happend was the millita was standing on the green(like the middle of the town) by a bar and standing there ground when one british office took some men to go basicly scare them away well they where both standing there face to face and then a shot waaas fired and both sides opend up and the milltia had some men fall and then ran
so i belive the millita fired first probley a single man and then the english commander ether gave the order or one of the young red coats fired and the rest guessing the order was givin also fired

I have no proof for this but I actually think that it was the colonists who fired first. Oh yes we put on the Valiant America defending from the British oppressors, but the fact is that our revolution wasn't even justified. Taxation without representation and all that horseshit? naa. That was our excuse. The British army aided us in the 7 years war (French and Indian War) after a long period in which we had self rule. and afterward demanded taxes. Then we dump their tea and they send in troops. We kinda had it coming and I think we would have shot first in an ambush or something...we were pretty underhanded during our revolution...
Just because we can doesn't mean we should...

Actually, more accurately it was we who aided them in the 7 years war, as it was a war between the British and French in essence, and we as their loyal colonists joined them exitedly. The reason that this upset us was because for about 120 years or so, more or less depending on region, we had been relatively autonomous from Britain; then when this war broke out, we fought with them. Now, this was all well and good, in fact it put us closer to the British and to feeling a strong British identity than usual, but it still disrupted the accepted medium which wasn't about to be lost. Then the taxes came in, the quartering came in, and so on. It all just built, and we got fed up.
I'd say that the British fired first, physically, but I'd say that it was our fault that the British fired first in that we were completely threatening their lives.

Maybe neither side shot first. Mayabe a hunter or something was in the forest looking for food and took a shot. The Americans and british believed it came from either side and opened fire.
