i have gotten tired of everyone calling the USofA america its total bullshit....there is no country called or has been officially called "america" EVER... look on every map you can find and not one will call the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA "america" i am very tired of this and i think that my people (yes im "american")should wake up and start calling them selves something more intelligent like USAens...Usens... now this only sounds strange because my idiotic people have never thought about it they never have but i hope that by posting this my people will start....
please no bitching in responses unless you can say SOMETHING OTHER then its what we think so to bad traitor OR go somewhere eles you idiot
This thread won't really go far since this is a thread about semantics. All I can say is that if you don't like how "Americans" refers to both all of America and the U.S., thus giving us the impression that the U.S. is actually all of North and South America you can:
A. Refer to America (the country) as "the U.S."
B. refer to Americans as "citizens of the U.S."

actually i refer to the country as TheUSofA since "mexicos" real name is the united states of mexico it could all get mixed up but im betting that not many people knew "mexicos" real name was that. and no my plan wasnt for this thread to go "very far" it was to inform a group of people what they should call them selves instead of what they currently use/call themselves

Excactly. If you dont like people calling you Americans, dont live there. Nobody is going to put 'The United States of America' when America will do.
Actually a lot of people refer to the U.S. as "the states". It's a growing trend these days.

The United States of America was the first independent country on the American continent. It was THE American nation because everything else was part of England, Spain, etc. or just unclaimed (the Native Americans didn't believe land could be owned).
As for the abreviation thing - the abreviation of Mexico's full name would be los EUdeM (los Estados Unidos de Mexico) so you can go ahead and just say US without fear of people getting confused.

Ah yes, but I could go by similar logic and say that Canada should be considered America because it is the country who occupys the largest land mass in either divisions of the continent we know as America

That sounds like something that was in a disney movie, the natives didnt belive land could be within the tribe but they often fought wars for the sake of getting land.

This thread is pretty stupid. It should be titled "I hate idioms" or something. When a word is used widely, universally, for a sustained period of time and has no long term likelyhood of comming to disuse for it's new meaning, then it becomes adopted into the lexicon.

Michael Moore came up with a better name: The Big One.
OK, somebody fire back with another "Oh, Michael Moore, he's so EVIL/WRONG/HYPOCRITICAL" response, since you can't resist having a pop as a result of him being demonised post-Oscars, can you?

They did not fight over land, Jim. There was plenty of land for everyone until it was colonised by Europeans. Most of the time one tribe went to war with another if one had stealen horses or food from another. You are not an anthropologist Jim, don't claim something to be a fact when really it's just what you think happened.

The US is NOT America, but a part of America. America is a continent, not a country. Learn this fact. Adapt. Accept.
I have my opinion on why we're called Americans. Even though technically Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilians are Americans (or if you want to get REAL technical, North Americans and South Americans), the reason we're called Americans while other countries on the American continents aren't is because we're the only country who has America in its name (United States of America). That's my take anyways.

Does it really offend you that much to have the U.S. refered to as America? It's not like they tossed that extra A in there to be colorful. So people want to describe a location in shorter syllables, God forbid.
I must lollerskate on this matter.

Youre the one who has all of history against you, have you ever even heard of the soiux? Yes there was plenty of land but specific pieces of land have desireable items on them, like buffalo or women. It is starting to seem like you know nothing about indians whatsoever because some of the things you claim are outright insane.

NO I haven't heard of the soiux. They must be related to the SIOUX, who currently reside in the Black Hills. There was plenty of buffalo for everyone until the Europeans killed damn near all of them and if they wanted women they would fight over women, not land.

Oh yeah, I hate it when you have to go on a specific piece of land to get women. I can't get over that nonsense you just wrote.

If they werent fighting for land than why did they occupy the other tribe's territory when they took them out. If they wouldnt let them come back, they were taking the land therefor it shows ownership of land.

If you are going to debate show information not nothing at all. They often wnt into tribes and took the women away.

Insane when your the one who cant offer evidence against it.

Question: What the hell did you just write?
What did I claim that can be judged insane anyways? I simply pointed out that what you said was that women live in specific region and wich the indians, wich happen to all be men, went out scavenging for new territories rich in women. To quote you jizz, "because some of the things you claim are outright insane." Im not even gonna start because your childishness and inability to give proof or accept defeat is going to make this thread degenarate into yet another useless flame war.
