Alright, I've seen a few threads/posts about "how the old design used to load more quickly than it does now", so I'll clear this stuff up right now. The site should be loading a LOT quicker now. Each page you visit should just zap up. In cases where it doesn't, here are the possible causes (most of which you can resolve yourself):
1. Your cache is full and every page you're loading subsequently has to load every media asset on it (as well as the page itself) each and every time you visit the page. Solution - clear your cache: http://support.lexisnexis.com/lexiscom/r ecord.asp?ArticleID=wg_cache
2. Your caching options are not optimised. This really only applies to IE and other similar browsers, which allow you to change the behaviour of how the cache works. Firefox tends to set things correctly for you. If you're using IE, go to tools->options->general and under browsing history, click settings. Make sure that "Check for newer versions of stored pages" is set to "Automatically."
3. There's a problem between your ISP and the NG servers. You can get to the bottom of that by doing a tracert to newgrounds.com.
The other thing people are complaining about (amongst other things) and are wrongly attributing to the speed of the site, which we are trying to find a decent workaround for, is the lag in typing time in the forms on the site. HOWEVER - this is not an issue with the site being slow, it's an issue with your PC (the typing stuff is handled by client-side code).
We did experience problems with the site running a little slowly in the first couple of days after launch - images not loading/taking a long time to load etc. That was down to some new software that we were using on half of the web farm and we were hitting some sort of hard limit that no-one knew how to resolve for a while. That has long since been cleared up, so everything should be a LOT quicker now than it ever was.
Right now, each and every one of the webservers and the database servers are sat there, happily ready to chug out heaps more content without skipping a beat. We're using up around a third of available bandwidth (and if we get close to that, we can happily burst up to twice the available bandwidth we have now - but for a long time, we've not even been close to using it all up).

Yeah, I've certainly found this a lot faster. Although last night had some major ISP issues, which counterbalanced that.

The only problem I'm having is typing. I type in bold text then delete the tags. Is there any way to improve my client-code?
And just like that....he was gone...

There shouldn't be any "server bugs" left - from now on it's just a matter of correcting any programmatic errors that have crept in and straightening up any broken links etc. By comparison, my tracert lasts just 11 hops and maxes out at around 80ms, averaging at around 35ms.

Short of upgrading your RAM (which is too dramatic for this, given that we are still trying to find ways of speeding things up), no.

Hey, remember when NTL ran it and it used to be awesomely fast, and never had problems?
I do.

So, what was wrong with the old code? If I remember correctly, the old counting script was not slow and still counted correctly. Why can't it be used again?

Is there certain browsers/software/settings that could be an issue? I would think my memory is sufficient enough for a text field.

Well, we know that's the cause of it. You might like to try turning off swap if you haven't already - I know that speeds things up a little at least for me, though like I said, I'm not really noticing the lag like some of you are. Tom was using an old machine the other day, though, and he said that it was just unbearable, so it's clearly something that we want to get to the bottom of.

I was expecting the site to run so fast that it reaches the page I want before I even click for it, but whatever, close enough.

Pretty much everything on Newgrounds has been amazing since the redesign, especially the new speed of the site. Thanks a lot liljim and all the others.

For me, it is much faster now. I didn't notice until you reminded us about that. Good job on speeding up NG!

The only form that lags for me is the BBS posting form. Whether or not that's what you meant, I don't know.
The typing cursor in the BBS form exhibits strange behavior. It's either blinking at an extremely rapid rate, or appearing to be solid (which could be a case of the former), like some script is constantly messing with the form. Whatever.
My machine runs at 3.6gHz and the lag is definitely noticeable. I know I type faster than most people, although that factor wouldn't be considered if everything was working smoothly =p

Apart from the day when the redesign was finished (and the forum was loaded with users), the site has been pretty fast for me anyway. The only problem I've had with the site really was solved by the "Pop-Up" button underneath all the Flashes.
