Earthbound Day

For those who aren't in the know: http://www.starmen.net

These guys are hardcore Earthbound fans who have been clamoring for a sequel for over a decade. Mother 3, the sequel to Earthbound, was released in April in Japan last year. They're now performing a siege on Nintendo begging for localization.

Earthbound did not fare well when it was first released for SNES (result of RPGs being not as popular at the time as platformers), and for this reason, Nintendo does not want to take any risks in localizing the next game in the series.

This series is also of great importance to our group, The Star Syndicate, because the group was founded on Sevenstar's Earthbound parodies.

I say we raise awareness for the game by declaring a portal holiday on August 31st. On this day, we release homages to this great game, and support the guys at Starmen.net with their siege.

P.S. We've deleted the Invisionfree board which we've called home for the past three years, and are currently going under hiatus. The next season of Dailytoons will start as planned tomorrow.

I was unaware that that was where you guys got your name from. While I still don't like big groups, you guys just jumped up to my group I dislike the least.

I'd love to see localization of Mother 3 (currently playing through my imported copy) and really hope something effective comes from starmen.net and what they're doing. Chances are not much will happen, but I'd love it if it did.

As for the day, I think too many people are trying to impose too many days, but I'd like to try to get something done for that date, even if it was an unofficial day.

We actually got our name from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, but a lot of the earliest flashes from the SS were Earthbound sprite movies.

Well, I guess that makes more sense. Either way, perhaps I'll get something done for that date. I can't guarantee anything, as I'm working on something that's taking all of my time right now.

Hopefully some more people get interested, but I don't know how big EB is on NG.

I haven't chacked in a while, but when I did a few months ago, the translation patch of the game (Mother 3) was very close to completion. Perhaps it's done now.

Earthbound Flash has actually been pretty popular on NG.

Here's a question... Would people rise to the occasion of making EB Day Flash with entirely original art? Like renditions of their favorite characters, in vector or some original mock-sprite form, rather than sprites directly from the game. OR... You could just do a big EB Collab. :)

The image I had in mind was with original (as in vector, not as in my own creations) art, as I've never been big on sprites. A collab would be neat as well, but it would be cool if there were a variety of quality movies submitted individually, but a collab would probably get more people participating, I'd imagine.

I'd probably draw my own versions of the characters. I generally find hand drawn animations have a bit more personality to it, because each drawing was made with love <3. I like the idea of a day as opposed to a collab simply because right now the guys at Starmen.net are trying to pull off a SIEGE, so the more spectacular, the better.

And yes, I think people would rise to the occasion. Starmen.net is completely filled with original fan art. I'd bet people would pick up their pencils/pens this time around as well.

God damn it, what is it with everyone trying to make a 'day' for every single thing? What next? A "Jim Carey Day"? Dedicated to his movies? How about you just make an animation dedicated to it instead? Why have as many people as you can submit crap for it? The first day was to show our appreciation for Inglor. Then Denvish, then Pico. Now there's a madness day, Luis day. Some people trying to make a stick figure day. It's just getting annoying now.

Earthbound is one of the greatest rpgs for the snes. It did get a little freaky at the end when Ness and Co got turned into robots to defeat gigyas...

I think that instead of an Earthbound Day, we should just make an Earthbound Collab. I'm not sure how many people would participate in it if it were a day, but a nice collaborative flash would be very good.

But I DO support this.
Earthbound was the second best NES next to Castlevania.
I'd reccommend the Collab also.
