i know its not a real contest but it spoils it if people decide to trace over the lines of other peoples well-made artwork. they put real effort into their drawings whereas youjust decided you'd draw over their lines and pass it off as your own. its basically a really shit way to do things, all you're fooling is yourself. don't you understand?! mabye if you actually had some drawing skills then you would have the right to tell people that they are losers and that they're picture sucked. but when they put more effort into their drawing- good or bad- than you ever could, i think they will always be better than you.

How do people get good in the first place? It is impossible to become talented at drawing without examining other peoples work at one point or another. And tracing is a form of that, people trace and copy to get a feel for different techniques. And eventually they can move away from that and create new images on their own.
It's not their fault that they may be new to drawing, if they didn't credit the original in this case I can't see why it needs to cause a fuss. Alien Hominid is a very well known character here and the classic works which are the prime source for tracers are easily distinguished.
So if someone wants to trace, blimey just let them.

I agree that copying is definitely a better approach than tracing, but tracing can be a good starting point for most people. Before moving into copying and eventually analyzing the structure of ones work, break it down and work out how things are done. And of course. Tutorials ftw.
