You can vote in the poll talk in the chat room and read the letter on the page.

I'm all for tough love and the whole "scared straight" scene, but this isn't the right way to go about doing it. This is harassment at the very least...

Agreed. Definitely better ways of handling this.

The councilman came off as a complete idiot in that letter. Had I not known that he had served in his elected office for over two decades, I might have sworn that he was a 13-year-old kid. The language he used was imbecilic -- he even called the kid a "loser."

From the letter it sounds like there's a lot of history there that we don't know about. Who knows? Maybe the kid made theats to him. Yes, the letter is childish, but this could be the last of many letters previously sent to this kid. It's just degraded to the point of calling him a dumbass.
Of course, the mother is just as ignorant as her son claiming that the letter is a threat. Dealing drugs like that puts you in a more life threatening situation than, say, bagging groceries. The letter was stupid and should never have been written. However, t his kid seems like a complete asshole who deserves death, and his mother seems like the stereotypical enflamatory ignorant mother whose son never had a father... so there you go.

I disagree, the kid has been in constant trouble as a juvenile.
Now he is an adult, but he's still acting like a kid.
Since when is it degrading to tell the truth?
This guy is a MAJOR dumbass!

;
I don't know if the kid deserves death ( his crimes so far -to me- don't seem to warrant it)
But the letter written in plain talk, no legalese , directly to the kid is in my opinion a good idea.
This councilman sends out letters to criminals in his juristiction all the time.
I applaud him for that. There should be a more hands on in neighborhoods to identify the drug dealers, like wanted posters only "Convicted Posters" with warnings & if you see so & so hanging around the corner call a cop etc.
Drug dealing crack etc. that stuff kills people, destroy's families, there is no justification.
Sure, you can start criticising me because I have taken the stand that I believe that marijuanna should be decriminalized.
But if any of you don't know the difference between -crack & pot- my heart goes out to your ignorance.
Those who have only the religious opinions of others in their head & worship them. Have no room for their own thoughts & no room to contemplate anyone elses ideas either-More
