Hi everyone. I've just read an article in a newspaper and it states that there was a poll in Russia (yep, I'm Russian) about nations, whom we consider hostile. I mean, people were asked about the country, who is the most aggressive towards Russia,

So, the raiting is:

1. Estonia
2. Georgia
3. Latvia
4. USA
5. Lithuania (I hope I spelled it right)

While the most friendly countries are thought to be:

1. Kazakhstan
2. Belorussia
3. Germany
4. China

And I wonder if there was such poll in your country (I believe not everyone here is American ;) ) and what were the results? Would also like to see your comments on this poll.

I get Georgia and Lithuania, but I don't get Estonia and Latvia. How are they threatening? They pose no military threat, and politically they are not very big players. Is it because Latvia might join the EU?

Poll for our country;
I dunno.

Enemies:
The US Federal Government
Iran
North Korea
China
Maybe Russia.

Friends:
UK
Israel
Germany
Japan
South Korea

Well, you may know that there are many Russians in these countries (about 40% !!!) and the problem is that they are being oppressed. Speaking russian is punished, Russian schools are closed, monuments erected in honour of soviet soldiers are being demolished. And also our tv shows loads of propaganda about it (i mean they really talk about it TOO much) to make people forget about our own problems.

Enemies:
The US Federal Government

Hehe. I understand you...

aaahh! That sheds some light. Thanks!

They're not so much an outside force as an internal threat to Russia, I think I get it now.

I've noticed that russia's biggest friendlies are all located relatively close to russia itself.

maybe we should Crunch all of the world togeather to make world peace.

You may also want to consider that a poll means that it was taken from the people not the government.

The monument in question was a monument in Estonia dedicated to Red Army soldiers who invaded Estonia BEFORE the Nazis and slaughtered the Estonians. They then occupied their country for another 60 years to boot and it was sitting in their capitol city. There is no place for a monument to occupiers and barbarians in the capitol city of a nation who was occupied by Red Army soldiers.

The fact Estonia was still number 1 cracks me the fuck up though. OH NO A TINY BALTIC STATE!!

Poland has gone insane, the two governing poland brothers, has attacked Germany with their words against Germanys past. But i think this was okay, every nation has to live with their past and failings.

I don't know how everyone else in my country thinks about it but I would say

Enemies
USA
North Korea
China
Germany
Terrorists

Friendly
West Europe
All the places where everyone goes on vacation (Turkey, Spain, Italia, Greece etc.)
???

About the enemies I do not really expect war or something but it is just my personal opinion of the countries (yes I know terrorists is not a country) that I do not really like of might just attack all of Europe like terrorists, North Korea or China

And for the people who live in those countries this does not mean I hate you so don't start sending hate mail, virusses or anything like that

Haha, gast, the question isn't "which countries or organisations don't you like", he's asking what countries you consider to behave aggressively towards your country. As for the US, I think there's a considerable amount of Americans that don't even know that there's a country called the Netherlands in Western Europe and I doubt that many among the ones that do know really hate us, considering that I can't remember any noteworthy bilateral disagreement in, what, a hundred years? Maybe even since the Republic declared its support for American revolutionaries in the 18th century or so? Maybe the The Hague invasion act counts, but that wasn't intended against the Netherlands per se, they just wanted to scare the ICJ into never trying to bring an American before an international court.

As for Germans, I doubt they really hate us. We've given them a reasonable amount of shit for as long as I can remember, especially during football matches/competitions (disrespecting the silence when they're singing their national anthem before the match, bringing cars with German license plates a proud Roman salute, Hell, I'm still a proud owner of one of those novelty orange Wehrmacht helmets, best five euros I've ever spent, might as well post a picture), but I don't think Germans ever really noticed. I've never heard of any anti-Dutch sentiments in Germany and I doubt they exist. One of the consequences of being a small, relatively neutral nation is that you have no outspoken detractors (maybe a few Belgians with an inferiority complex).

Demosthenez, you are welcome =)

Britains Greatest Friends and allies are Our fellow English speaking countries. Canada, Australia, The US and New Zealand. WW2 showed that the Anglo-Sphere is probably the greatest Alliance in World history.

I doubt this can be considered an alliance. These countries were colonies for most part of their history, they simply depend on UK, and behave like a part of it. And well, I think it's really nice.

As for the US, I think there's a considerable amount of Americans that don't even know that there's a country called the Netherlands in Western Europe

I betcha there are more Americans that know neither of these countries than those who know at least one ^_^

I'm a Hollander, but calling the whole country of the Netherlands "Holland" is basically the same as calling the whole of the United Kingdom "England", I could rant about it for about an hour but I'll refrain from boring you so I'll ask you this: are we really that well-known in the States? I think that most are aware of the fact that there's a nationality called "Dutch" and that its origin lies in Western Europe but do they know of the country that exists today and its history, enough to feel any sort of animosity towards us? I've seen Amsterdam being referred to as a country and I'm afraid I've sort of lost my hope, despite Dutch-American Friendship Day (never would have heard about it if it weren't for Google).

The only reason we know a people called the "Dutch" is Austin Powers.

Freaky deaky Dutch, never know what they gonna do.
