can't seem to get my ground right. It usually keeps ending up like below.
i dont really need anything special, just a ground with good shading for like

If I am understanding what you're saying.
I'd suggest just making the gound flat and not using shading except for behind objects and people.
so i should keep the ground flat if i need to
be like the ground in most platformers
but should i leave it one color or should i design?
and if i should design it, wat should i do the area the ground
is used in a forest and outside in a bright landscpae background?
The further away something are from your eyes, and the closer it comees to the horizon the "lighter" they get, they loose value. So, if you wanna go simple.. Just keep it flat, and change the place of your colors... So dark get close, and light get far away :)

But yeah, that's what I'd suggest, something like that. Just try texture the floor a bit, instead of one flat colour.
