Without Newgrounds, I would probably be playing MMOTPS, FPS, and RPG games for 18 hours a day.

Back when I was about 12, me and my friends would go on newgrounds and be amazed at this front page stuff, wondering how they did it, only me and a friend of mine chris actually attempted to do things, when he found out flash was 600 dollars he stopped because his family is VERY poor, so he couldn't, but I found my place and Hobby here at Newgrounds...

Thank you Tom for your wonderful Blind Luck in creating this...

Ahhh... but I have an excuse for not working on Flash while browsing the BBS, and that is because my laptop, which has Flash and Photoshop, doesn't have internet at the moment and appears to be dying anyway... =[

Shoot, if you look at my voice resume, every single flash I've listed is up on Newgrounds. I know people don't usually think of Voice Actors when they think of flash. Focus tends to be on the animators and logically so. But yeah, amateur web VAs like myself owe a LOT to newgrounds. How many cartoons would I get to be in if there weren't such an awesome unifying flash community that motivated people to make all this golden animation. My wager is none to very few...

In recent months, I've begun to seriously consider Voice Acting as a career, and I'd say that's a pretty big deal for someone who's nearly earned his Masters in Science (All that schoolin' just so I can take off and follow my dream? Sounds good to me). So yeah, Newgrounds may ultimately be what motivates me take up a career in professional voice acting.

I hope to continue being a part of Newgrounds through my acting and I hope that some day my name and voice will be commonly recognizable on this site.

Cheers to the lot of ya, Newgrounds. I feel like I owe you all so much.

i consider newground the ultimate place to put up your art, cause no matter when, people will see it and critique it in a good way, and it actually requires effort and skills to submit something, unlike other community sites like youtube when you could just record your pillow gettin layed by your dog, submit it, and less than a hundred of people would watch it, and it would be forgotten in the thousands of videos subitted everyday.

Newgrounds still has this "small town" feel, and i seriously hope it stays like that forever, thats what makes it different from other sites, its easy to get into here, and do something you're good at, wether music, flash , drawing or just giving our opinion out... i think its because you have to be a member to do all this, and not just some random guy who just spams...

oh well, NG is the ultimate place for anything flash, and it inspires people to work hard on something in their lives... seriously, i had never worked so hard on my life before i did a flash, it requires tons of hours and patience and knowledge :D

so i got here playing dad n me on another website, it took me here, i played zelda lampshade, the that took me to watch the Decline series from the flash bros, and then i got totally hooked by every good flash on NG. im like the weird guy in my whole city, i actually speak another language with online people and started working on flash at 13, i mean who the hell does that over here? everyone is like having nothing to do but school, no goals in life, and i got one here, i found a way to express myself to thousands of people in here.

so, NG is cool, maybe im going a bit deeper in facts, some people just consider it another site but it means more to me :)

That's exactly what I love about Newgrounds. The whole "small town" feel. YouTube varies in video content though. As Newgrounds only accepts swf. files in the portal, people's random video blogs can't be submitted here unless it's converted to a swf. file. Shame, it'll probably be blammed in the end as it is. But that still doesn't change anything. Newgrounds has that indie type of feel of a website to it. It's not TOO BIG like YouTube and it's not TOO SMALL like some homemade website. It gets the hits, it needs -- and it's a fun place to just chill and talk to fellow Newgrounders.

I never quite ever saw that little animation. For some reason, as I watched it -- I felt maybe I was being subliminally advertised somehow. Ahah. :]

I had always been creative before Newgrounds; Art classes, drawing on the corners of notebook paper, things like that. When I was like... eh... 9, I decided I wanted to do something with my... talent. So I searched google and found "Game Maker". That's right, the same Game maker used by SFB. I used that, made a REALLY crappy pac-man platformer, then quit. I was done with this just-out-of-the-trash piece of junk. So I didn't do anything for a couple years.
But after all of those years I craved something; a little movie making. So I made some really crappy movies about Mentos using my mom's new video camera and edited them with windows movie maker. But it wasn't enough. If I wanted something that was completely my creation, I was going to have to do something else. Being a directer was too limited.
So, Much later that year (like... 5 months), New Years Eve, there I am, thinking of something to do. 11 year olds don't often stay up until 12 at night (at least this one didn't). So I get to thinking, why not be creative? I remembered Game Maker, so I opened it back up. You could make like 3 frame movements for the characters, so I did. They sucked.
Finally, I opened paint. That's right, paint. I remembered my previous experience with Windows Movie Maker and I remembered being able import pictures. I'm sure you can all guess what I did from there. I made an animation. This was that animation.
I was proud as could be. I sent it to everyone I knew. The people who say I suck NOW said that it was good. I thought it was promising. But it didn't matter. The grueling task of making the animation was just too much. I didn't think I would do anything like that ever again. In a way, I was right. That following year, I found one of the greatest MMORPG's in history. No, it's not WOW, but it's popularity around the world is a threat to be reckoned with- Ragnarok. It was fun and I was addicted for well over a year.
While I played, I kept telling people that I was gonna make an animation about our server. At first, I didn't, I couldn't. But then It was over. Ragnarok got old. Same old people, same old enemies. I started making marble tracks in my room, no longer going onto the computer.
But sometimes I did go onto my computer. When I found out that the new Decline of Video Gaming was out (I worshiped SFB... I still like them, but now my respect is spread throughout newgrounds), I jumped at the chance to watch it. Knowing of only one site to see it, I turned to ugoplayer.com. I watched it once, then again, then I looked at the menu.

"This Flash and More, Also on Newgrounds!"

Newgrounds? What's that, I asked myself. I checked it out. I was immediately entertained through the abundance of animations. I saw the good and the bad, then became a regular in the portal. It was amazing. Because I was going on the computer so much, I began to play RO again. It was a new level of Geekiness.
It still wasn't enough to satisfy my creative hunger. I ate it all up, sure, but I wanted to do it myself. I looked at the tutorials under "Help/FAQ", then I tried flash. I liked it , so I got it. I began with a flash called "DBZ vs. Kirby", which is on my site (www.spare-jello.tk). It got blammed, I gave up. At the age of 13, I started again.
I did many a collab, starting with the SSBM Collab (the third of which is starting now... join it), then finally came to my senses. I wasn't original yet. Nothing was mine. I was leeching off of other peoples work. Sure, collabs are great, but not when it's all you do. So I worked on a short project of my own. It was called "Check it!". That was my first animation in the portal that passed, and God was I happy when It did.
I started animating again. I made episode 2 in less than a day, then I began to work my little butt off. An animation a week one month (starting with Check it 2, ending with Wreck the Halls). That's been my peak so far, but I'm getting better.
I've been working with flash ever since then. It's a fun hobby that I plan to be doing until the day I die.

I've gone and become an SSBB addict... what to do, what to do...

I am one of the ones in the boat of people who've had great experiences with this site (seems to be a big boat).

When I was in grade school, my friends and I would visit Newgrounds all the time and play games and watch movies and such, and loved it. I never really wondered how they made stuff on here, but I just enjoyed it.

When I was in grade 9, my sister was taking a university class that involved Flash (was Flash 5 at the time). As she was doing something else, I sat at her laptop working on something (took 2 hours for a 3 second video of a cut-put cat picture jumping through a field). I loved it, and thought it was good. Throughout high school, I went on-again and off-again with Flash. There would be months where I would work away at stuff, and then months with no work at all done. I went through different versions (I had a friend who's dad worked with a lot of software, so he always had it), and kept working on Flash whenever I felt like it, barely getting anything full done. Whenever I did want to make stuff though, I'd come right back to Newgrounds.

Now, I've finished my first year of university (in a Forensic Science program, completely unrelated) and have decided to switch into an animation program for good. I have a lot of hard work ahead, but I have a year off now where I spend time practicing and working on my stuff. A lot of that is thanks to Newgrounds, as this site always gives me motivation, and I know that if I ever do something, I have this place to come and show off my work and get comments on it and help with it. There are lots of great minds here, and being able to learn stuff here and having a place like this has really motivated me to go for animation full-time, and I look forward to it.

Short version: I wouldn't be where I am without Newgrounds.

I would just be some guy playing games instead of Flash.

Newgrounds inspired me to get back into animating (or start, seeing I stopped because I was so crap), and because I was inspired by Newgrounds I found tutorials and CartoonSmart which has helped me a lot... I'm still crap but I was crapper before.

Yeah, Newgrounds definitely impacted my life, I'd say for the better. I used to be one of those intellectual kids who end up going to a private high school where even the nerdiest kid in a public school would still be cool. But the Newgrounds community has motivated me to open my mind and be more creative. I was always so-so at drawing but after a few years on NG, I'd consider myself better than average. I don't care if spending my time working on animations and pieces of art causes me to fail tests in school, because in my opinion, submitting a finished piece to NG is far more rewarding than getting an 'A' on a test.
I'm actually on my laptop right because I've been in NYC for 2 weeks taking Motion Graphics classes at the School of Visual Arts. In one year, it is very likely I'll be returning here for college.
While NG is partly to thank for my choice in education, my parents have also encouraged me to do what I love. I have a lot of friends who love to write or draw but their parents won't let them pursue their interests in college because it can be hard to make money doing these things. I am extremely grateful my parents aren't like that.
