This is a bit outdated but the hype surrounding this staged event was incredible. It's always fascinating to observe how a True Believer reacts to a sudden, unexpected and unanswerable threat to his fundamental ideological underpinnings.

Hmm well the US army has used propoganda before, like in Afghanistan (and this war), when they dropped leaflets about "Usama" Bin Laden and told enemies to surrender.

Yes but in Afghanistan's case it was propaganda directed at ennemy soldiers, not innocent American citizens. ;)

What's amazing is you can blame the US Army for pulling down a statue for propaganda (which was not the cause anyway) but you can't even snarle at Saddam for all his propaganda.

Iraqi Information Minister: They are not at Saddam Airport! I will take you there and prove it in one hour!

WELOVETHEIRAQIINFORMATIONMINISTER.COM

Bitch about some real propaganda, like so.

That was not a propaganda event, all media was there voluntarily or they were imbeds. Besides, would you leave it up?

Also, STOP MAKING SO MANY TOPICS ABOUT IRAQ!!!! ONE IS PLENTY!

Leaflets are not propaganda. Propaganda is the broadcast or telling of lies or exaugherated (fuck i cant spell) events. Leaflets are urging enemies to surrender, and all facts on them were true.

Nailbomb can create topics about whatever the hell he wants. If you don't like it, simply ignore him or do
something in that manner.

The definition of propaganda as given by www.dictionary.com:

1) The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those advocating such a doctrine or cause.
2) Material disseminated by the advocates or opponents of a doctrine or cause: wartime propaganda.

Those leaflets regarding Osama Bin Laden that the US Military dropped were still propaganda. The term propaganda refers to anything that is trying to convince someone to adopt a certain viewpoint. The validity of the arguments has nothing to do with it.

Actually he can't, creating multiple topics is against the rules. He could have posted this in one of the many other (ot one of his for that matter) war topics on here. Please do not claim things about the rules that arent true.

man... i think dating someone in the military is doing dangerous things to my political beliefs.... i took a look at that article and immediately began making excuses for the military to do that...

i still don't support the war. what a waste of resources that should have been used back here at home. even my man in the army agrees with that. don't worry, we both vote democrat... because these kinds of half assed lies are what you are going to get voting for incompetent fucks in the GOP.

really. they diddn't even make a decent attempt at the propaganda. if you are going to lie at least lie well and lie convincingly. i don't have as much problem with lying to the people as i used to because ive found out that most of the people are freaking idiots. but then again, this is (well, ideally) a "democracy" so the people should know the truth. its not as if they were covering up some big military secret that was imperative to national security or something. propaganda is a fine, fine art that has deteriorated over time. *sigh* where have all the old masters gone??

I don't think bad camera angles are an attempt at propaganda. They shot this impromptu and on the spot with handheld cameras. What are you expecting in a war-torn battlefield of a city, highrise steadycams and helicopter panaramic shots? No, and certainly not on the spur of the moment.

If there was any confusion over the crowd size, it was not intentional.

If you honestly think democrats don't lie then you should try doing a little more research. It's really unexcusable for someone to believe this when Bill Clinton was president only 3 years ago.

I hardly think lying about a blowjob is comparable to the current situation.

I'm not a republican, so don't think that I am defending Bush. It was fairly obvious that Clinton lied about alot more than sex what happened with Monica Lewinsky. I'm merely trying to point out the fact that politicians as a whole tend to be scum sucking liars. More importantly, I'm trying to point out the fact that posts which are the logical equivalent of "lIeK OGM rePUblICans totaley liey!!" are pretty worthless. The same thing goes for posts which are randomly pointed against democrats.

i know all politicians are liars.. i just have to choose the lesser evil which is at this point democrats. i dont care if someone lies about their sex life, i care if they lie about things that actually matter to the good of the nation ie war, the economy, you name it. not all republicans are bad, not all democrats are good. it just happens to be that the leader of the republicans at this time is a complete and utter jackass. sure the democrats are a JOKE right now but im sure anyone they put up would be better than bush.

Bad camera angles? Go read the article, people were too affraid to go outside of their homes so they flew in US supporters to make it show like all of Baghdad was there to celebrate the downfall of a statue and go read the other article linked as well, that wasn't a bad camera angle either, that was a straight-out lie as was the mainstream picture of Iraqis celebrating in the streets of Baghdad.

In regards to the cries of outrage that I have created another topic: why not create simply ONE topic for any political matter? It'd be a lot simpler now wouldn't it?

Have you actually SEEN one of those? The US actually EDITED the pic to make it seem like "Usama" was wearing a suit, in public and abandoning his followers, all of which he didn't do. Think again.

No, one topic for Iraq is enough, you don't need to create 10.

No, if the matter addressed deems itself as not being able to focus into the first topic, a second may be deemed needed. Otherwise topics would simply go of topic, and as such all topics would then be locked.

Perhaps I should help you out. US Army propaganda coup. Do you see the word "Iraq" in "US Army propaganda coup."? This topic will serve for other coups of US army propaganda. I created another thread for this issue because it is a matter worth investigating further, if anyone wishes to talk about the newest updates in Iraq, they may do so in the Bush-Iraq thread. Or they may create their own topic if they feel that it is worth singling out and focus their attention on that matter separate from the situation that spawned it. ARE WE HAPPY NOW?

That's not stated in your "article". You made it up.

and go read the other article linked as well, that wasn't a bad camera angle either, that was a straight-out lie as was the mainstream picture of Iraqis celebrating in the streets of Baghdad.

Some of those blobs are pretty questionable. How do I know if that site didn't just photoshop the pic to make it look like some basic patterns repeated?

How can you confuse a few dozen people with hundreds, if not thousands?

I don't think there were thousands, but at least 100, probably.

Did you not have a gander at the pictures? That was roughly 40-50 people.

Also, they ten to Ignore Amnesty International, when it complains about their actions. They US used Amnesty International as an argument against something or other a year or so ago, but AI condemms more of Americas actions than most other countries.

It's the nature of the beast: When you're expected to do something for us, we'll respect you and quote you until it becomes cliche, but when you have evidence that doesn't fit in with what we believe or, more importantly, want YOU to believe, it's dismissed.

It isn't just politics where this happens; It's a common occurrance in dominant discourse and social hierarchy. Debating politics is, naturally, an extension of this.

I totally agree, when someone is faced with a fact that undermines his basic beliefs his reaction will either be "THAT IS PROPAGANDA!" or "I just don't care about anything anymore."

heyy.. just because you are a bitter quebecois seperatist doesnt mean you should go ignoring the realities of politics. sorry man.. but the real world is COMPLETELY AMORAL and full of lying propagandists who we are never going to defeat so we might as well make the best of it and play the game to our advantage. hell i hate the fact that the us lies too.. but i know the us is ALWAYS going to lie for ever and ever along with every other nation that has any sort of say in the world. so what do i do? hope that they lie to serve the greater good (which they arent) until i can vote, and then when i can vote i will vote for the person who does the best lying for the best cause. then when i graduate college i can get a job lying for my own cause, which might very well be workers rights or something. heck man, its all just an ends means relationship. i hate to be cliched and quote nietzsche (yes i spelled it correctly, biatch)... but "the ends justify the means" in most all global politics.

*sighh* the world is a depressing place, non?
