I wonder why every time some stupid white woman get kidnapped it's all overe the freakin news for the days, weeks or months untill they inevidably find the body live or dead. Does anyone really care that some stupid girl from Utah got taken away by a friend of the family or some white woman got kidnapped by a Jamakin. It's my theory that they run these storys on Fox news CNN or MSNBC just so we look at the parents griving/begging for their daughters life and say "oh poor miserable people". I think it's really fucked up to exploit people in a traumatized state just for ratings and ad money. The worst are the reporters who ask How they feel. "your daughters misssing how do you feel". I can't wait for one of these grieving parents to take a swing at these asshole reporters.

Why is this news? One person dieing short of a world leader should NEVER be worth more than one segment much less months of coverage. Is it just them fear mongering or do people actually care about this stupid people getting kidnapped? Just aggrevates me to see the media wasting our time.

"stupid people getting kidnapped"?

That's rude, you don't even know the people you are calling stupid.

Also, it's not really news but it gives us an impression that we are all part of some grandiose community. Quite subtle, isn't it?

So i'm rude. not news to me. Why does everyone feel the need to sympathize with the families? Or be part of the aforementioned grandiose community? It just seems like blatant fear mongering to me saying that if some girl in Utah can get kidnapped than any one can. The truth is any one can get kidnapped and the sooner we learn to live with that fact the easier we can see through "it could happen to you" and realise the it most likely will never happen to you.

Well, love it or hate it, the news is there to make money. And these sob stories sell. Heck, the news flipped out over Paris Hilton, because a lot of people watched the story. I would suggest not watching any tv stations and just looking at official reports if you want facts over "Will Paris change?".

The key word here is "could", so that "it could happen to you" is 100% correct.

I think the news should be more about learning rather than having and action edge.

It's HARDLY the fact that a white woman is raped, it's the fact her dad is the Governor of Alabama. The fact she wants to world to know, and the fact her family are attention whores

Stuff like this is covered in the news because people want to see it. Sad but true. You are arguing against the wrong side.

That shit isn't news. I'm surprised people care about those losers. It's sad when someone gets kidnapped, but we are involved in a war, and at the time of a couple of these things happened Katrina had just hit. It's stupid.

Yes, active kidnappings are news because the police are using a little tactic called attention. If you draw a lot of attention to a kidnapping, you keep interest in it alive, you pressure the kidnapper, you inform people in the area who might spot details, you call out people who might have information, and you rally the population to help find someone before that person dies. For once, the news just isn't about you, it's for people in another region, and too bad if you can't handle that.

For all the trash about celebrities and wasted reporting time, you have no excuse for targetting kidnapping news when it actually has a real purpose.

Gossip isn't news either, Mr. Condescending. For the record, that attention thing didn't work. Either way, after two weeks, I'd expect them to change strategy.

I don't care if the news is not about me but we already have a system for dealing with this and national news is not it. Do you think for one second that if kidnappings didn't boost ratings that they would even make it on T.V at all? The news media doesn't care about actual news anymore, they will cover any story that moves more ad time. I don't mind if they cover all that celebrity/human intrest crap but not on the news. There is a time and place for that, they're called tabloids. Wether or not it sells as big as other less serious news orginizations that doesn't mean you should sacrafice the journalistic ethic for gossip or what ever the flavor of the month seems to be.

I know i'm a minority on this because apparently most people have a vested intrest in the lives of Britney Spears or Paris Hilton and hate actual news (i.e war, death, inceased tensions) but when I have to look at underground news scources(blogs ect..) to get any sort of coverage on this it is a sad state our news media is in.

Oh I do love this topic so much lol. It's simple, we're humans, accept it. People by nature love conflict, drama, and action. It reminds me of a song I like by one of my favorite bands, and just for a treat, and because I'm drifting away from my regular intelecualy styled arguments, I'll give a short exerpt.

Eye on the TV
'cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavour
It happens to be like;
Killed by the husband
Drowned by the ocean
Shot by his own son
She used the poison in his tea
And kissed him goodbye
That's my kind of story
It's no fun 'til someone dies...

...Vicariously I, live while the whole world dies
You all need it too, don't lie
Why can't we just admit it?

Vicarious - Tool

The name of the song is linked to a lyrics site.

Personaly, I love violence, and accept it as my human nature, I personaly use video games, sports, and exercise as an outlet for my own personal deviance. I'm not going to go out and shoot somebody in real life, but I do enjoy blowing the living crap out of things in a massive hail of gunfire or using a rocket launcer in my video games. Alternatively, I play football and wrestle, which are an organized and "safe" means for me to have "ordered violence". Yeah, I understand a lot of people are not going to agree with A LOT of what I just said, but in all honesty, who doesn't have conflict in their lives? Weather it be an argument with another person, a physical fight, stress from work, love of sports, news, or even reading a novel that isn't all happy all the time. I know this part is going to sound a little messed up, but if everything were perfect in the world, it would be horribly boring. Get your fill of other peoples tragedies (granted that is a pretty sickening practice, but you wouldn't watch it if it didn't envoke something for you) go play your video games, lift some weights, or indulge in your sports. It's better than being cruel to other people.

I'm not trying to argue against human nature and believe me i'm more violent and cruel than most. If people want drama and conflict the why aren't they interested in the WAR it doesn't get more dramatic and conflicted than WAR.

Me too. COD3 and GOW are two of my favorite games.

I couldn't agree more .

I'm not against this practice because it's cruel (which it is) i'm against it because this is not news. Nobody is affected by this except for the few people involved directly. This has NOTHING to do with anything that should be on the news. it belongs in the tabloids because it's such a small incident and will have 0 global impact.
