Click on your textbox and press Ctrl + F3 to bring up the Properties panel. Make sure it's a dynamic text box (select 'Dynamic' from the drop-down box on the left), and then look on the right-hand-side of the screen. At the bottom of the Properties panel, there should be a box with the word 'Var:' beside it. Put your variable name in there.

Attack is what i named my variable. Any ideas?

Erm.. It could be that you aren't using _root.attack
