guy I ever met. A week or two before school ended. I heard a conversation with other students and my history teacher. It was a free period that day when a conversation started.

He said "Come on guys, the USA will always be a superpower!"

Another student responded with "No.."

Afterwards the teacher asked him what he think will be the next superpower and the student responded with "China".

The teacher laughed and somehow they got into a discussion about wars, he said the USA never lost a war. I join the conversation and say that the USA did lose wars and he asked me which ones. I didn't know where to begin, I start with the Vietnam war. My teacher makes a excuse and says we pulled out.

I said we had so many people die and technically it was loss since we retreated. I forgot the rest of the conversation due to me having my period through my nipples, I mean my history teacher is one of the nicest teachers in school, but he can get patriotic at times. But I never saw a more patriotic person than him.

China will surpass the US in economic output within the next few decades, but the size of an economy isn't the only factor in determining superpower status. The US is still decades ahead in military technology, global influence etc... The US has control over the worlds financial systems, and despite what the stupid youth of countries think about the US, the US still holds sway in every major world power.

Also, China depends on the US more than the US depends on China. About 60% of their economy depends on US investment, while only 10% of the US economy is composed of China-related business. If they really became a threat, the US could cut off business with them, block them out from financial systems etc.. It would hurt the US economy, but it would destroy China's economy.

The US is still going to be the worlds superpower for the foreseeable future.

Excuses? What he said was entirely true, you just don't know wtf you're talking about. The US military has NEVER lost a war. That is entirely true, the US military has never been defeated.

Vietnam was a political defeat, the US military succeeded in protecting South Vietnam. Every single engagement between the US and the NVA or Viet Cong ended in a US victory. Every major attack by the Communists was soundly defeated even though, despite what people say, they were very well equipped and well led, they were supplied and funded by the Soviets.

Since the North Vietnamese realized they couldn't win in an actual war with the US, a peace treaty was signed. The agreement was that the US would leave, and that Communist North Vietnam would not invade South Vietnam. The US held its end of the bargain, and US forces withdrew from Vietnam victorious. But then, 2 years later, the Communists broke the treaty and invaded South Vietnam when the only US troops there were Embassy staff, a few hundred diplomats etc...

Then, the Democrats refused to recommit US military support for South Vietnam.

Therefore, military victory initially, and an eventual political defeat.

So your teacher is right, and you stupid students don't know what you're talking about.

Oh, and being patriotic has nothing to do with it. What he said was entirely correct and reasonable based on the FACTS. It is actually anti-Americanism or the trend-following "let's rip on America to be edgy" mentality that causes someone to believe that the US lost Vietnam militarily, or that China is going to kick our ass, it's not reality.

So instead of criticizing your teacher for simply relaying facts to you, you should be chastising yourself for taking a stance based on trying not to be "patriotic" rather than taking a stance because it's true, even at the expense of seeming patriotic to morons who think such a thing isn't socially acceptable.

So, apparently I am a moron for saying he is patriotic? When did I ever insult him for being a patriot? Please find it. I am a little patriotic at times, but I hate it when people are automatically going to come in this thread and put text into my mouth saying I insulted him being patriotic.

Lets back into the Vietnam ages. We did we leave? Some people say we left and didn't lose. Some people say we lost. Guess what? WE FUCKING LOST, GET OVER IT, WE LOST THE WAR! People who say we left are to ignorant to understand the facts that we lost the war. Why did we leave? We left for a reason, too many people getting ambushed and killed. So, we left for that purpose not for any other reason. I can understand if we left once we gave more power to North Vietnam. It was retreating because we didn't want any more people dead.

If you are too ignorant to believe this, whats going on in Iraq right now? Are we winning? No! Too many people getting killed, the government is holding our troops in there. But we seriously need as much aid from other countries as we can get, better yet, we need more aid from our country.

Oh and another part I forgot to add, if you are too ignorant to believe this, lets use a example: A squad of 9 soldiers walks down a hill, trees and bushes everywhere. Then suddenly, 6 enemies pop up and open fire on those nine soldiers. The nine soldiers attempt to fight back but 5 of them die. The other 4 retreat. Now, did you say we lost that battle or we left that battle?

Vietnam wasn't a war.... not techincally anyway. As far as I know, the US goverment never declared war in vietnam making it little more then a long violent skirmish

The confederacy was a part of the US (or at least just a faction), so technically a part of the US lost?

Look at me I'm anti-patriotic too, and I think all patriots are stupid for believing in something greater than themselves which wipes our asses everyday. I refuse to sing the national anthem or say the pledge of allegiance. Am I cool yet guys???

It also goes the other way, pretty much every operation into North Vietnam resulted in failure.

A huge number of wars could be called only political defeats, but only Americas war is called that.
