Honestly, I think that the government really needs to settle down about this who video game buisness. I think that it is a great idea that they should pass a law that prevents the sale of violent media to minors. That is not a bad idea at all. Kids shouldn't be playing Grand Theft Auto or Halo 2.

Yet there are two things here:

Console manufacturers would be required to include parental-control devices in their systems
Retailers would have to adhere to product labeling guidelines

They already do that. Which just kind of makes me wonder if they have any idea what the gaming world is really like.

What gets me about this is that this law strikes down so hard that a person could get up to two years of jail time.

That is freaking stupid. Especially when the laws of selling alcohol and cigarettes to minors is much less harsh.

I think they need to really rethink this law.

Maybe they thought it would stop Jack Thompson from threatening to sue them.

This won't solve anything. Kids will find a way around the control system, and the parents will be back to complaining about violent video games.

They can never ban violent video games because most games are anyway.

If they did it would be a violation of the First Amendment.

So get that thought out of your head now.

It's really utter bullshit because the thing is and I have done this as well, Kids can get someone over the age of 18 to go into the store and buy the game for them. And also the place I work at, Card people for anything marked with a Parental Advisory Sticker, or ESRB Rating of M.

If this bill passes, I'm seriously gonna go and piss on where the V-Tech shooter body is buried. It's all his fucking fault people are taking unnecessary stances against violent video games.

This makes me glad my dad likes a good war game. Heck, I've seen him go insane on San Andreas. Good times, good time. Especially the part where I put in the flying cheat and saw him flying around with a tank! Oh that was awesome.....

But back to the issue, I completely agree.

They should just go right ahead and call this the blame shifting bill. I doubt they're clueless enough to truly think this is the culprit for greater crime. It has been this way ever since Columbine though. Hopefully they'll eventually just drop this conviction.

I'd have no problem with them enforcing even more strict age limits, I've only got 17 months to go before it means shit to me, and in that span I've got permission/the ability to buy what I please. As long as they don't begin cramping a creative entertainment outlet for the sake of 'preventing violence.'

Here is something that should make you feel better.

The government would also like to dissolve the private ESRB and come out with government run organizations such as the FCC so they can control what content gets out there.

Basically with the ESRB they slap a rating on the game with no control on what the content is.

With the other they can literally say, "This content isn't suitable for anyone and you need to go back and change it."

Not the Manhunt 2 and The Darkness! Damn you! Why can't just everyone play what they want to play. Me and my friends grew up with Mortal Kombat. We used to play it all the time. Nowadays almost everyone of our crew are sane.
