Im A Nerd?

There used to be this image of a 30 or so, fat guy, riddled with acne, living in his parents basement with star trek posters all over the walls, who did nothing but talk about science or play video games all day. That used to be a nerd. These days it seems like so many things can constitute being a "nerd". I never thought i was but when i told my friends at school the other day i go on NG a few hours a day on average i was labled a nerd. Now it seems like liking things like star wars and playing games a lot makes someone a nerd. I thought well i like to do these things.. does that make me a nerd? I mean i have sex, take drugs, party a lot, go out every weekend. These were things i thought "nerdy" people didnt do. Now so many things i thought were cool are jut laughed at these days...

According to my friend's definition, a nerd is someone who is smart, uses the computer, is mature for his age, and uses words he doesn't know, such as "obese." He thinks that being immature is so ubercool and he wants to "stay a kid forever." He also likes to watch Cartoon Network and his favorite shows are Naruto, Camp Lazlo, and My Gym Partner is a Monkey. He also wears dark clothes to be cool.

My definition of a nerd is: really smart (in every subjects), few or no friends at all, plays Dungeon and Dragons or any other wizards and dragons crap except World of Warcraft, and always nervous around girls.

Playing WoW does not make you a nerd, to many people play it and when it becomes so broad that a lot of people do something and it is not isolated with a specific group of people then i can't be categorized. Different places around the world have different views on what a nerd is. A tech college has a completely different view of a nerd and just being smart is not being a nerd.

You are right. Although I rarely play computer games, computers and their games have become a part of modern day life. If anything, you should be calling them hippies instead of them calling you nerd.
