This is for everyone who asks, where can i get a free music maker or variations of that question. I am just browsing kvraudio.com when i stumbled upon a little page which will be extremely useful for all those starting out in audio.

The Free Software Studio

It gives you a few, editors, sequencers instruments and effects, which are all free and all pretty good for being free too. check it out it'll help you tonnes. There's a shit load of tutorials on there too which i think myself would find useful. so yea.

yea theres not some bad gear in there, and covers pretty much everything to get someone started on all aspects of music, rather than just an editor like audacity, because you can't do jack shit without some variation of multitracker. undoubtedly this will disappear in a matter of hours, but it may just helps to point any noobs to this thread whenever the need arises as a lot of the stuff in the sticky is outdated, broken links etc, some of the stuff here is but it's more up to date, and there's loads of tutorials for stuff too.

Being the cheap guy that I am, I'm already using a lot of those. All of my music has been made with REAPER and all of my drums are ERSdrums.

I've gone and become an SSBB addict... what to do, what to do...

Computer Music ran a special a month or two ago about setting up a completely free studio. That issue shipped with a CD containing 200 some-odd plug-ins and utilities. I imagine that you could order a copy from their site. Best part is that they combed over the web and only included the stuff that's worth a damn - so there's very little, if any, completely worthless VST's that were included only because they happened to be free.

I know that all of the stuff on the CD is free but I still can't quite bring myself to zip up the CD and post it somewhere - that feels a little too much like infringement of some sort... Plus, there are several CM versions of software - versions of this or that VST that are only available through the magazine and I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to redistribute that stuff.

Oh well... go to their site and order an old copy!

That was the first issue of CM I ever got, and I've been hooked ever since. :-D

Those free studio things aren't really that great, but good for starters.

Atleast it's free!

There's TONS of high quality synths and effects out there. You don't have to pay a cent to make great-sounding music nowadays. I've made several songs using nothing but free stuff, and nobody knows the difference.
