Am I one of the only people that thinks that the student body of Duke and teacher body should be ashamed of themselves? They presumed these kids to be guilty and now make themselves look like assholes. The students and teachers yelled at them saying that they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law yet they are found innocent.

I'm glad Nyfong was disbarred and I'm glad these students are getting their lives back. I hope Duke University, Nyfong, and that Crystal lying bitch all burn in hell.

Like i said, not 100% on that. I haven't seen any evidence of that other than the girls reputation which could have been custom made for the trial.

Having a reputation for crime isn't necessary for someone to commit a crime. The judge proved to everyone that these men did NOT rape her and that she in fact made the claim up.

The charges were not only dropped, they were found innocent. When the state finds you innocent, it means you are innocent beyond a reasonable doubt.

Nope, found "innocent". There is a difference between "Not guilty" and "innocent". Innocent means the defendent is innocent beyond a reasonable doubt. This is rarely given. "Not guilty" means there is not enough proof to find the defendant guilty. Brush up on your law, before you attempt to bash knowledge with ignorant comments.

No I didn't pay much attention to the case. But considering the point of this thread was more to insite emotional reaction thaneffect anything meaningful it didn't warrent research. It also seemed very very convienent a reputation for the girl came out after.

Innocent is 100%, but since nothing is 100%, it's as close as you can get. Not guilty just means that a reasonable doubt exists...

She was found to have semen residue/DNA in her underwear, the only thing that came out was that the semen wasn't from these three. So if they didn't rape her at the party, then who did? And why is no one talking about who actually did sleep with her or probably rape her. It was a party, someone must have saw something!!! I just read up on this.

It is completely insane. Those men are going to be faced with a slight judgement all their lives. Everyone was against them even though they knew they were innocent. There was pure racial judgement against them. The faculty condemned them and news outlets condemned them.

I, for one, am glad this is only the worse that they got.

And there's a huge difference betwen "innocent" and "not guilty."

There wasn't really any physical evidence.

I personally believe that although these guys were rawdy and all that... they were not guilty of rape.

I blame Nifong for setting the different classes and races at each other's throat...can you seriously blame the College, community, media etc for going after them...It is a fairly affulent school, and with the repuation that the malicious prosecutor gave the school, it was unsuprising that everyone jumped on the bandwagon of condemnation...people seem to need scapegoats to make themselves feel better...

And I guess this sort of played out like every other high profile case involving more than just whites. White people thought OJ was guilty, blacks thought he was innocent. Whites think Michael Jackson is guilty, blacks think he is innocent. Whites KNEW before the verdict was released the Duke boyse were not guilty (the actions of Nfong certainly helped this along) and blacks thought he was innocent.

There still is tension, but at least I can say I have black, asian, latino, white, Arabic, Jewish, whatever, friends. I am not sure there is any other time in history this could have been claimed and I really do think that says a damn good thing about our country if nothing else does. I am proud of our nation for that and think it is amazing, frankly.
