No one realistically expected HD-DVD to compete with blu-ray. The superior platform was clear very early on in the game, and HD-DVD won't be around for to long. Just another nail in the coffin.

blu-ray is fucking stupid. it's an unnecessary "advance" in technology. The jump from VHS to DVD was big, and revolutionary, going from DVD to slightly better DVD is kinda dumb to me. I'll be somewhat interested in HD-DVD's maybe, but Blu-Ray is meh.

HD-DVD's are an even smaller jump then Blu-Ray.
And the difference between Blu-Ray and DVD is gigantic.

My theory:

HD-DVD is a more familiar name than Blu-Ray. Majority of people are stupid and will favour the HD-DVD since they have heard of both, 'HD' and 'DVD' before. Two new words 'Blu' and 'Ray' will just confuse them.
